Wooden Medieval Knight Sword 38 inch Review

Wooden Medieval Knight Sword 38 inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This sword was well designed, but poorly crafted; although it arrived earlier than scheduled, the cross guard was loose, there was a bur in the pommel, and the tip of the blade was partly warped. Fortunately, it was very easy to fix; all I needed was some duct tape to secure the cross guard. From there, it was very handy to wield. Overall, this sword is one of those great ideas gone bad, but these problems are easy enough to remedy once you get the sword.

For centuries the wooden sword has been a vital tool in mastering the art of sword wielding. However, in the past the swords used were only wooden sticks. The look and feel of this medieval collection will allow your customers the opportunity to truly master the art of sword wielding. Plus, they make a great non-lethal display.

Cold Steel US Marine Corps Officer Saber Review

Cold Steel US Marine Corps Officer Saber
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I heard that Cold Steel was producing Marine Officer and NCO swords, I knew that I had to get one. My first knife I ever bought was a Cold Steel pocket tanto and I have been a loyal Cold Steel customer ever since. I have been looking for a real Mameluke sword for quite some time and this was exactly what I was looking for. The swords that we have to purchase at the Basic School are made of stainless steel, cost between $400 and $700 depending on the vendor, and do not hold up too well after a tour as a Series and Company Commander at MCRD PI. The blade of my sword is about to fall off the handle and most of the anodized brass is scuffed and scratched beyond repair after six graduations and all of the associated practices. So while I would hesitate to use this sword for Drill and Ceremonies (it is razor sharp) it looks better than the one I bought at the Basic School and is much more durable.
Pros
-Real Brass on all the brass work. If it is scratched, buff it out. Plus let's be honest Marines, real brass looks better than all the anodized stuff we use these days.
-Solid construction, watch the video of this model going through the British proof test on Cold Steel's website. Close Order Drill won't break this sucker.
-Razor sharp, combat ready sword just like the one Lt Pressley O'Bannon was given by Prince Hamet Karamali after defeating the Barbary Pirates and Smedley Butler carried in China.
Cons
-Razor sharp, look for ears laying on Peatross parade deck if Marines start using these for graduation at Parris Island.
-Won't pass the Basic School inspection, sorry Lt's, you are still going to have to buy the expensive stainless steel fake sword like every other Lt before you.
-Requires a bit more maintenance than our issued stainless swords, if you aren't careful, these will rust.
Overall this is a great product, and Amazon offers it at a great price.

While we heartily approve of our Armed Forces wearing dress swords and sabers, we thought it was a shame that only unsharpened, poorly tempered wall hangers made of weak stainless steel are all that's available. That's why we decided to make our own truly battle worthy reproductions. They're faithful in every detail to government specifications; they offer highly polished blades, appropriate etching and quality hilts and scabbards. The only real changes we have made are to drastically improve their performance as weapons by forging them from 1050 Carbon Steel and properly heat treating them to a tough spring temper before sharpening. In the case of the Marine Corps Officer's Saber, we have changed the hilt to solid mirror polished brass (not easily worn gold plate) and improved the attachment of the tang to the hilt so it could better withstand the rigors of sword to sword combat.

Cold Steel Nodachi Japanese Warrior Swords Review

Cold Steel Nodachi Japanese Warrior Swords
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As most already know, this isnt really a nodachi, but a different class of weapon. Its not a very authentic blade. Its heavy and with extreme width. But that only gives to its feel and appearance of being a very strong and resilient sword. I dare to say the blade looks and feels a bit post modernist. Its like a contemporary pagoda. There is no traditional kissaki and the type of blood grooves it uses to lessen the weight of the blade is quite unique for a Japanese Katana. Still, the blade looks and feels very secure.
The handle or tsuba probably could use some work. Since the handle is more than 20 inches, I feel as if the handle should have been made of a more resilient material than most production katanas with lesser lengths. I don't get the same sense of security with the handle as I do with the blade.
Ok, enough with being a d!ck. All in all, its a terrific sword. This is something that any sword fanatic would be happy to own. Its a powerful looking weapon. And I give it 5 stars.

The Japanese swords of the Emperor Series have proven, since their initial introduction almost five years ago, to be quite popular with many of our customers. Still, we are aware that there are some people who want a battle ready sword but hope to find one at a more affordable price. Our Warrior Series addresses this problem directly. In our efforts to reduce the costliness of the blades, we have omitted the expensive mirror polishing that we used on our Emperor Swords to create a new series of Japanese swords with a more practical finish. The Warrior Series swords are very handsome in their own right and share the same steel, heat treatment, and sharpness as their more expensive Emperor counterparts. Like the Emperor swords, they have Samé covered, cord wrapped handles and quality fittings. If you're in the market for a strong, good looking, reasonably priced Japanese sword we know you'll be happy to own one of these. All come complete with a BLACK LACQUERED SCABBARD and a BLUE/VIOLET COVER BAG.Specifications:Weight : 69.6 oz.Blade Thick : 5/16"Blade Length : 34"Handle : 23" Samé (Ray Skin). black braid cord with brass MenukiSteel : 1055 CarbonOverall Length : 57"Sheath : Black Lacquered Wood w/blue violet cover bag

FGX Cat Tanto, Kraton Handle, Plain Review

FGX Cat Tanto, Kraton Handle, Plain
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The CAT Tanto is an odd item. The price is low, it looks cool, it feels great - but it just doesn't seem correct for any of its possible functions. It's large - far too long and thick to really be "concealable." The rubber handle is excellent for gripping, but just adds to the bulk of the item. The blade isn't very sharp, due to the material it's made from, so a slash isn't practical. The tip is very sharp, so I could see the weapon penetrating with a straight strike - but if I'm in a self-defense situation, I certainly wouldn't want to be so limited in the use of my weapon. I suppose the butt of the grip could also be used to strike - it's pretty hard and somewhat pointed. Or the appearance of the blade could be intimidating - but what do these things really do for serious purposes? A more slender, smaller striking implement would function just as well and be a lot more concealable - whether a "tactical" pen or other fiberglass/plastic items that are marketed. This could be used as a training knife, but then the tip should be blunted or an injury could result. I'm torn because the CAT is so nicely done for the money; I just can't think of a situation where it really fits. (The strangest thing was a very strong metal ring fixed through a hole in the butt. Why put a metal ring on something made to avoid metal detection, or put something to make clinking noises on an object made to conceal?)

Cold Steel Trench Hawk Axe Review

Cold Steel Trench Hawk Axe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a owner of both the SOG Tactical Tomahawk and the Cold Steel Trench hawk, these two are probably the most coveted of tomahawks on the market.Fellow hunters have quoted me on which is the better buy.Well I can't decide for you,but I can list the pros and cons of both of these to decide which might be better for you...
COLD STEEL TRENCH HAWK
Pro:Blade is made from Cobalt Steel
Con:Cobalt Steel can easily rust
Pro:The blade and spike design are definitely geared towards hunting
Con: The Trench Hawk is pretty limited to use in hunting only
Pro:The handle is sturdy polymer at 19" in length
Con:The handle has no textured grip
Pro:The Trench Hawk comes with a hardshell sheath that's really unique
Con:The sheath has no belt loopSOG TACTICAL TOMAHAWK
Pro:the sheath is button opened with a belt loop
Con:The sheath is made from nylon,a semi cheaply made sheath
Pro:The blade is made from stainless steel so it will not rust easily
Con:stainless steel is not as strong as cobalt steel
Pro:the spike is extended for greater reach
Con:the spike is not very sharp, needs a sharpening stone's touch
Pro:has a sturdy polymer handle with textured grip
Con: overall the tomahawk is 15 3/4" this could strike the user as small if you've carried larger tomahawks(but this could be a pro, depending on the user)
Pro:the vietnam tomahawk design allows it to be great for camping, hunting, and climbing-lots of uses,it's your swiss army knife's companion.
Con and Conclusion:The SOG is very sharp and can be used for hunting, but due to it's shorter handle and slightly less aggressive design it's recommended you keep it very sharp,if your only interest in a tomahawk is for brute force then go with the Cold Steel Trench Hawk.Personally, I bought both because I couldn't decide which one I liked better, they're both highly recommended!

The Trench Hawk may well be the perfect antidote to the raw terror of eyeball to eyeball combat in the confined spaces of a trench, bunker, alley or narrow hallway. All it takes is one stroke from either the vicious cutting edge or its brutal wedge shaped spike to end the fight, and if the party starts at longer range the Trench Hawk's twin -Inchbusiness ends-Inch make an accurate throw a breeze, since there's double the chance of a lethal hit. When used defensively, the Trench Hawk's cutting edge and spike also provide a big advantage, as either can be used for hooking or trapping and, like our Spike Hawk, their combined length can be used to parry or block an incoming blow. Drop forged from 5150 carbon steel and differentially hardened, the head of the Trench Hawk will withstand tremendous blows and the awful stress of continued throwing.

Pro Thrower Combo, 2 Knives, 3.75 in. Blade, Plain, Leather Review

Pro Thrower Combo, 2 Knives, 3.75 in. Blade, Plain, Leather
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Very very cool knives. I mostly have larger knives like the Cold Steel True Flight Thrower (which is awesome btw) so i decided that I needed some smaller and lighter knives. I looked around and these were the best knives for the cost I was looking for. These knives are only sharp on one side of the blade (doesn't really effect throwing) and they are pretty light, so you can throw them fast. Only problem I have with them is that because of their lightness, they don't have the best penetration on my plywood target. The leather sheath is nice to have on your hip when you're throwing, easy stowing for the knives too. At this price, they are great for beginners. 5 out of 5.

Solid product that is well made and holds together. I have been working with this sword for one year almost daily now and have been impressed by its quality. Keep in mind this is not a light sword; and is sharp from hilt to tip; do not get this as a begginer blade; start with the light unshapened version or wooden sword first; they are cheaper and you will not risk injuring yourself or anyone else that way.

Chisa Katana, Wood Scabbard Review

Chisa Katana, Wood Scabbard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a weapon collector, I bought this katana mainly just to show it off. When the katana arrived, it was sharp, but not as sharp as I expected so I spent about half an hour to an hour sharpening it. After a while of reading on how to properly hold this type of sword I went outside to slash up some plastic water bottles.
The water bottles were getting sliced very nicely. While slicing the water bottles, I hit the table I was using as a platform twice. I didn't really care about hitting the table and the blade getting worn, but I was quite surprised when I inspected the blade and didn't find any chips or dents on the blade when the katana struck the table.
Overall, it's a great sword whether it be used for a collection, decoration, or a weapon, which is expected from Cold Steel.

Since it arrived, I've used the Practical Rapier for historical recreation fencing, and been very pleased with it. The fit and finish is great for the price, and makes it unjust to label this an "Entry Level" product.

The Schlaeger Rapiers utilize a popular swept hilt. These tapered blades provide a superior balance compared to the traditional parallel-sided schlaegers, making for a faster sword. Our Renaissance-style Rapiers trace their origins to early 17th century Europe, where swordplay with the Rapier was considered an essential part of a gentleman's education and was often used in resolving gentlemanly disagreements. Blades generally originated in one of the blade making centers such as Toledo or Solingen, but many differences in styling and hilt materials resulted from the local manufacture of hilts all over Europe.

Frontier Hawk, Hickory Handle Review

Frontier Hawk, Hickory Handle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So, I purchased this tomahawk hoping it could serve as my backcountry chopping tool. It wasn't exactly what I had expected, but it is still a fine tool. The hawk is made of 1055 carbon, a very tough wilderness steel. For comparison, a standard USMC KA-BAR is 1095 (CroVan), so in the same ballpark. I was disappointed when I first got this hawk, it came extremely dull. I've purchased from Cold Steel before, and all of their products usually come screaming sharp. Not sure why they didn't put an edge on this one...
Anyways, I was easily able to put an edge on it with simple tools (one of the pros of 1055). The other thing that I had not been aware of (can't see in the pic) is the thickness of the hawk. I only have experienced with Fiskars axes, and all of them are thick and wedge shaped. Thats not the case with this hawk, its blade is relatively thin throughout, making it not the best spittler, since you can only force in as far as the handle before it will get stuck. This does make it more lightweight though.
What is does do well though is throw. I've thrown it many times now, and I have yet to find any hawk that flys better. A pro of the thin head is that it easily buries into the target with even minimal force. Overall a good tool, if you know what to use it for.
UPDATE
_________________
I've had this hawk for a while now, and while the original issues (see above) still exist, I consider it a great tool. I recently broke the handle (entirely my fault) and when I ordered a replacement I received the 22" variety, and I have to say this improves the hawk 100%. 19 inches (the original size it will come with) is just a little too short to get two handed leverage on, but 22 is perfect. You can really wind up and get some real force behind it, which makes this a great chopper. I find it throws better too. You can still use it one handed, it's perhaps a tad more unwieldy, but still perfectly usable. All in all, a great purchase and a great hawk.

Cold Steel Mini AK-47 Knife Review

Cold Steel Mini AK-47 Knife
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've never been so impressed by a knife with a blade length of around 3". The knife was so sharp out of the box that I could easily shave hair off my arm. I now have a bald spot on my arm, but well worth it! Next, it's virtually impossible for this knife to slip out of your hand because the handles just "grab" your palm and hold your hand in place, even if it's sweaty. The bottom of the handle contours to the shape of a closed fist so well that "death grip" is the best analogy I can find to describe how well it stays in hand. I've duplicated all of the stress tests for this knife that can be found on Youtube and it passed with flying colors (even the spine whacking test). The locking mechanism on the AK makes for absolutely zero blade play in any direction. Lock this knife, and it feels like a fixed blade. The wave feature works perfectly, but the attachment on op of the blade is removable, if you so choose. One handed deployment is easy, but the lock is SO strong, that closing it one handed is quite difficult, although NOT impossible. It just takes practice. The clip is rock solid and unobtrusive to the overall grip. The AK even comes with a second handle, just for us lefties! There is also a light weight, blunt protrusion opposite the knife's business end that could be used as a blunt instrument in a self defense capacity, along with a generous size lanyard hole. Best of all, the blade length makes it perfectly legal in MOST places. The only cautionary comment I have is that people with large hands might want to consider the full size AK47 instead of the mini. For folks like me, with small hands, it offers the perfect fit. Finally, given the price point, what you end up with is an extremely durable knife that you can use and abuse with total confidence.
UPDATE 31 March 2011 : Just got the nerve to do the test where you balance the knife between 2 bricks and then stand on it. Since it's the mini AK47, I had to balance my entire body weight (185 Lbs.) on just one foot, which put even more pressure on the knife! I have to say that it passed with flying colors and works as well as ever! No issues with opening or closing, and nothing seems to be bent at all. I was so impressed, I got one for my son. I have to give it to Cold steel. Their product torture tests are apparently genuine.

In 1947 Mikhail Kalashnikov, the legendary Russian gun designer, created the AK-47 assault rifle. Eventually adopted by the Red Army in 1949, it became famous as the -InchPeople's Rifle-Inch. Such renown was well deserved, as it was an utterly reliable weapon. It was rugged, simple to operate and maintain, economical, and effective at reasonable ranges. This weapon, and all it represents became the inspiration for our heavy duty tactical knives, the AK-47 folders. Designed by Andrew Demko, the AK-47's possess all of the attributes of their namesake, and perhaps a few more. They're built for hard and rugged use and are available in two sizes. Both sizes have many features in common. For instance, both are equipped with G-10 handles that offer a vigorous grip that is remarkably tough, rigid and incomparably strong. Also, each size comes with a unique pommel made out of 6061 aluminum. The pommels feature a lanyard hole and can also serve as a -Inchless than lethal-Inch percussion tool in a self-defense situation.

Cold Steel African Walking Stick, 37-Inch Review

Cold Steel African Walking Stick, 37-Inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had seen the African Walking Stick/Knobkerrie in the Cold Steel catalog and was struck by the familiar design. Despite the dearth of reviews, I put it on the Christmas wish list. And here it is Christmas day and I have one in my hand. (Makes it a bit hard to type...)
I have a vintage African walking stick, purchased at auction, that has been my companion on many walks over the years. It has held up well, but the tip now shows some wear and there are chunks missing out of the knob (perhaps from contact with another "knob", long before I had it). I wanted a "workhorse" version of the original, one I could bash up and thus save the antique from further distress.
The two sticks are beside me now, for comparison. The Cold Steel version is about 2 inches shorter and half again as thick in the shaft as the wooden one; the knobs are about the same size, though the burl head on my wooden one is more oval than round. I've just put them on a scale -- the polypropylene stick is just under 2 ounces heavier.
I am 6'4", and one of the things which attracted me to the Cold Steel stick was the 37" length -- many canes/sticks are shorter, and the 37" length is about the lower limit for me to have a comfortable angle of the arm when resting a stick on the ground. But this design is not really intended to serve as a cane; "walking sticks" are sticks you have with you when walking, and are typically carried rather than rapped upon the ground. The knob serves as a mace head for defense, but also is a counterbalance for the shaft, important for proper swinging of the arm.
The two sticks have very similar balance points, which suggests to me observation and care on the part of the designer(s) since a poor balance more rapidly tires the arm. Bent strongly across the knee, the polypropylene stick flexes less than 2 inches, then instantly returns to straightness. Rapped on the floor, the stick makes a good solid "thud". The knob fits comfortably in my largish hand; the knob might be slightly too large and the stick slightly too heavy for a person of slight frame to use constantly. The "beaded" shaft makes for a good grip.
Overall, I give this stick high marks. It is a worthy version of a classic design, and I look forward to having it with me on walks/hikes. Nothing better than having a third leg on a steep trail, or a longer arm with a heavier fist when things get tight.
------------------------------------------
Followup --
I've had this product for a while now and am returning with some further impressions/insight.
Something I had been concerned about was the thermal characteristic of the polypropylene plastic; specifically, whether it would be uncomfortably chilly for winter use. I find the plastic is similar to wood in how it heats up and cools off -- I left it in the car overnight in below-freezing weather, took it in my bare hand in the morning, and it warmed up like the wooden staff I had left beside it. It will be a while before I can try the black material in full desert sun.
I've been putting the stick through the paces, and have found several uses for it which would perhaps surprise the makers:
1) Isometric exercise. Hold the stick with straight arms at chest level, gripping it with one hand at each end (one hand just below the knob), and put it under pressure like you are trying to bend it. (It will flex slightly.) While keeping it under tension, raise your straight arms in front of you until they are over your head, then reverse and bring the stick back down to your thighs. Now do the same thing with the stick vertical in front of you, and twist from side to side while keeping the stick flexed. A surprisingly effective workout; the stick flexes just enough to engage the muscles to keep it under tension, and your chest muscles get a workout too. Exchange your grip and repeat -- the "bead" toward the bottom of the stick is smaller than the one near the knob, and exchanging hands gives a different workout to hand and forearm. Try also a motion to the side like you are paddling a canoe, while keeping the stick under tension.
2) Tote yoke. I tried hanging two full bags (15-20 lbs each) on the stick. The beads keep the handles from slipping off, and the bead at the balance point makes for a natural grip when carrying at your side -- *much* more comfortable than carrying the same bags by the handles and easy to switch from hand to hand. I tried the same arrangement resting across my shoulder, and found the beads make a reasonably comfortable rest there. (A bandanna/t-shirt wrapped around that point might make it more comfortable for a long haul.) Instant yoke for carrying bags or buckets.
3) Foot massager. OK, I know this one is "out there" for people primarily considering this as a self-defense weapon, but it works! Roll the stick across the floor under your foot, with medium pressure. The various-sized beads on the staff allow different pressure points, and the geodesic head is great under the arch. After a long hike, a good way to relax the feet.
The only problem I found with the stick was a small, slightly sharp molding seam that went across one edge of the geodesic head. An emery board made short work of smoothing that off. I will say again that the stick may be slightly too heavy for daily use by a smaller person.
I continue to be pleased with this stick, and recommend it along the lines I have discussed.

Adapted for the western marketplace, the Cold Steel African Walking Stick features some of the best parts of traditional Zulu Kerries like an undulating shaft, and the traditional geodesic ball grip. However, instead of using a costly exotic hardwood, we've made ours out of black Polypropylene. This means that, in addition to being unbreakable, it's also impervious to the elements. It will never rot, warp, crack, splinter, swell, shrink, mildew or fade, and it's ready for all the wear and tear you, and the world, can dish out. Although its primary mission is to be a walking stick to aid one's balance when crossing uneven, slippery, wet or rough terrain, it can also serve as a pointer, lever, or probe. It also makes a formidable tool for self-defense in an emergency.

I bought this on a whim but now am glad that I did. I hike a lot in desert country and really like this to sweep the grass and check for snakes. At 42 inches I am not sure this is good for any other critters but the flexibility and light weight makes me prefer it over trekking poles/walking staffs. Not recommended if you need something for stability.

Cold Steel has decided to make a synthetic version of the classic Sjambok. Featuring a thick, beefy lash, injection molded from polypropylene and equipped with a soft comfortable Kraton handle designed to resemble braided leather, our synthetic Sjambok rivals the look and performance of even the most expensive originals. What's more since it's made entirely from super tough plastic it's impervious to the elements and will never break, crack, shrink or mildew like leather is prone to do.
