Cold Steel Nodachi Japanese Warrior Swords Review

(More customer reviews)As most already know, this isnt really a nodachi, but a different class of weapon. Its not a very authentic blade. Its heavy and with extreme width. But that only gives to its feel and appearance of being a very strong and resilient sword. I dare to say the blade looks and feels a bit post modernist. Its like a contemporary pagoda. There is no traditional kissaki and the type of blood grooves it uses to lessen the weight of the blade is quite unique for a Japanese Katana. Still, the blade looks and feels very secure.
The handle or tsuba probably could use some work. Since the handle is more than 20 inches, I feel as if the handle should have been made of a more resilient material than most production katanas with lesser lengths. I don't get the same sense of security with the handle as I do with the blade.
Ok, enough with being a d!ck. All in all, its a terrific sword. This is something that any sword fanatic would be happy to own. Its a powerful looking weapon. And I give it 5 stars.

Cold Steel Saber/Cutlass DVD Review

(More customer reviews)This two-DVD set is an excellent introduction into use of the saber and cutlass as they might have been used in actual combat. Learning the techniques taught in this DVD set will certainly make the person who masters them a formidable opponent. For the sport fencer, these DVDs will no doubt be of interest, but they don't really teach techniques to be used in a sporting contest.
The DVDs cover a multiple applications with the saber, to include:
*Gripping Methods
*Ready Stance or On Guard Position
*Footwork Methods
*Fighting Ranges
*Seven Primary Cutting Methods
*Five Primary Thrusting Methods
*8 Essential Parries
*Cut, Thrust, and Parry Drills
*Ripostes
*Combat Strategy
*How to Recognize and Create Openings
*Infighting
*Grappling
*Brawling
*Throwing the Saber or Cutlass
DVD number 1 in the set is taught by Anthony DeLongis, and is absolutely outstanding in its quality and instruction. Mr. DeLongis is clearly a skilled martial artist, and absolute master with the saber. His demonstrations on the DVD are both a pleasure to watch and are presented in a manner that lets one develop a basic skills set with the saber, using the DVD instruction.
DVD number 2 in the set is taught by Lynn C. Thompson of the "Cold Steel" company. Mr. Thompson is no doubt a skilled martial artist in his own right, but is clearly outclassed by Mr. DeLongis. Mr. Thompson seems to be aware of this as he several times in the 2nd DVD mentions his own years of martial arts training, or how quick his eye is supposed to be, or is own perceived advantage in using the saber.
Still, DVD number 2 provides the viewer with several good techniques and tricks in using the saber, which will certainly serve a man well should he ever actually use a saber in actual combat.
This DVD set probably deserves a 5-star rating, but loses a little bit based on Mr. Thompson's stage presence in the DVD. -- At least he could wear pants and a clean shirt, instead of shorts and a baggy sweatshirt, when presenting a DVD about the use of a weapon like the saber.
Mr. Thompson's stage presence notwithstanding, this is a fine set of instructional DVDs that belongs in the library of any gentleman interested in the combative use of the saber and cutlass.

(More customer reviews)Beautiful looking bowie out of the box...The Timber Rattler Outlaw Bowie Knife has a full tang, blood groove, brass gaurd (or bolster) & pommel, and an extra long, razor sharp edge. This knife's blade is another in the "Timber Rattler" line made from the Pakistani Surgical Steel, which seems to be the case with all of the "Timber Rattler" knife line. Timber Rattler Outlaw Bowie Knife has the feel of a heavy & very hardy knife when held in one's hand, and is more than hardy enough to perform general utility camp duties. The hardwood handle seems to be just the proper size, matching the blades immense size, yet easily & comfortably graspable in medium to large sized hands. Cannot attest to the ability of the knife to maintain its edge sharpness as yet. Definitely a large beautiful knife.... Overall a very nice value for a sub-$20 knife, and would be a nice addition to anybody's knife collection.... My only complaints are that the knife's sheath is a little cheaply made and does not match the quality of the knife; and that the blade's knife edge had a couple of moderate defects caused by improper (or hasty) sharpening (e.g., small nicks in the knife's cutting edge).

(More customer reviews)Don't forget about the signal mirror inside the cap top! The lanyard could be used for many things like shelter building, securing a bandage or mending clothing. I know it's not much but it's still there. The compass is luminescent and works well. The flint is small but it does work if you know how to use it. The whistle is loud and hurts my ears. I stuff it with water proof matches, fire starter and striker. I submerged it for a few minutes and then lit a match - no problems with leaks. I got it at Walmart on clearance for a buck.

Tribal Spear Sectional Burned Wood Review

(More customer reviews)this spear is a pretty good deal for the price. this is a perfect spear for the reenactor since almost every ancient and medievil culture used spears. the head and butt cap of this two piece spear are steel and very servicable. the weak spot would be where the two halves join. the wood is stout enough and when the two peices are screwed together tightly mine does not have any wobble. all metal and wood joints are glued and pinned securly, but i don't think i would hog hunt with it.(i would rather have it than a big knife when facing an angry 200lb hog.) to hog hunt with it just replace the haft with a one piece shaft and it would be fine; although, my other hog spears do have wider blades. i would recommend it, not too bad overall. actual blade is 4 1/2" x 1 1/4"

(More customer reviews)This is an excellent hunting spear to be used in hand only. I doubt that it would throw well and doesn't have enough mass for deep penetration. The blade is razor sharp and it takes a lot of effort to dull it. The spear is very well balanced and light weight.
My purposes for this weapon is for realistic martial arts training. The weight, balance and flow of this weapon is great for combat. You will have too dull the edge to train with it. The weapon can easily, accidentilly, cut you to the bone.

Cold Steel Assegai with Short Shaft with American Ash Wood Handle Review

(More customer reviews)The only complaint I have about this weapon is that the end of the shaft needed to be trimmed more for a better fit for the spear head. But that's a minor issue. My spear hasn't killed anything except plastic bottles and cardboard boxes, but I have no doubt that it could be used for hunting. In case of a zombie apocalypse, I'd remount it on a longer shaft -- something that would not be difficult to do -- but the short shaft is handy and easier to store.
