(More customer reviews)For the price, I was a little nerveous this knife would turn out to be the size of an ink pen or fall apart as it came out of the sheath; neither was true. The 5 3/4 inch blade appears sturdy (although the steel type is not marked). A hex nut inside the handle can be used to tighten the blade if it becomes loose. The black plastic handle is firm and doesn't cave when you squeeze it. If you're planning to be lost in the woods for a week, obviously it would be preferable to have a more sophisticated (and expensive) survival knife with you. But this basic knife with compass and fishing kit is certainly better than having no knife at all; and at the cost you can afford to keep one in multiple locations. It is what it is for the price.

I have only used this on older knives used for utility purposes. Some of these knives were very beat up. It was very easy to remove a lot of metal from these knives so cleaning them up and starting with a fresh edge was not difficult. After removing the burrs, re-sharpening is effortless. So the bottom line is, great sharpener but use care to not whittle your knife away!

(More customer reviews)Ok this wasn't what I expected. First the good: I've only just recieved this but it seems to be well built. No loose parts or flimsy construct.
However...
This is a much heavier knife then I thought. It is not practical for combat use. But it would make a hell of a heavy duty kitchen knife.
There are no rubber inserts, or if the inserts are rubber, its a very hard rubber that doesn't help at all with the grip. So keep in mind that the grip isnt so great (not terrible, do to the shape, but not especially comfortable or slip proof).
The knife did not arrive very sharp, though with some work I'm sure it'll be just fine.
About the sheath, besides for being cheaply made (I'm sure it'll fall apart after some use), it has a 'safety' latch that keeps the knife in, but makes it very hard to unsheath.
So bottom line; It is a heavy duty knife that is not badly made. The sheath is junk though. It's a decent price, but not if you want it for army use. I would not take it into combat with me. It may be good for hunting though since I'm not a hunter, I don't know for sure.

(More customer reviews)I knew when I ordered this I was not going to get a top of the line knife, but I must say that for the price it was better than I expected. The blade itself does have somewhat of a gleam to it, but it is not as highly polished as say as $50 knife would be. That being said however, it is a sturdy knife with some weight and a good feel to it. I like the fact that the hand grip is made out of semi hard no-slip rubber, rather than some hard plastic like material that might slip in your hands if they got sweaty. The sheath is rather basic and there is not much to say about it except that it serves it purpose. This knife has a very sharp point and the edge is acceptable. The blade is made of 440 stainless steel.
Overall a great deal on a decent knife.

(More customer reviews)Beautiful looking bowie out of the box...The Timber Rattler Outlaw Bowie Knife has a full tang, blood groove, brass gaurd (or bolster) & pommel, and an extra long, razor sharp edge. This knife's blade is another in the "Timber Rattler" line made from the Pakistani Surgical Steel, which seems to be the case with all of the "Timber Rattler" knife line. Timber Rattler Outlaw Bowie Knife has the feel of a heavy & very hardy knife when held in one's hand, and is more than hardy enough to perform general utility camp duties. The hardwood handle seems to be just the proper size, matching the blades immense size, yet easily & comfortably graspable in medium to large sized hands. Cannot attest to the ability of the knife to maintain its edge sharpness as yet. Definitely a large beautiful knife.... Overall a very nice value for a sub-$20 knife, and would be a nice addition to anybody's knife collection.... My only complaints are that the knife's sheath is a little cheaply made and does not match the quality of the knife; and that the blade's knife edge had a couple of moderate defects caused by improper (or hasty) sharpening (e.g., small nicks in the knife's cutting edge).

(More customer reviews)After looking through knives at a huge range of prices, I was somewhat apprehensive spending what little I did on this. I figured that since it has a flint, if nothing else, I'd have a way to start fires.
I wasn't disappointed. The knife is well-balanced, solid, and just the right size. I'll be using it for years to come in my treks into the woods.
It has a rope around the tang, so, if you're in an emergency, you have rope, and the flint sparks readily using the teeth at the top of the blade.
It's less comfortable than one with a more ergonomically designed handle, but I'd rather have the twine in a pinch.
It's a great knife for the money.

Big Bohica Kukhri Machete Review

(More customer reviews)this machete is of a much higher quality than i expected for 8 bucks, to be frank. i was expecting something that rattled around, pieces loosely bolted on, weak and unsharpened metal. but it has a full tang (blade extends through the handle for greater durability, all the way to the bottom of the hilt), the metal itself is not prone to bending at all, which i suppose wouldnt make it a weapon for constant combat, but its a machete....thats not what its for. the handle is a simple, but incredibly sturdy design. two pieces of molded plastic on either side that are very tightly bolted on three times.
for an easier referance, the blade itself is as long as 2-1/2 to 3 typical soda cans. the handle 1 typical soda can. its definitely tough enough for brush and small foliage. perhaps even smaller trees. id avoid hitting anything with thick bark, or anything bigger than a couple inches across, however. perfect for a self defense blade. relatively small, cant hide it, but not a sword, non reflective blade, and its light, comparatively. fits well in the hand, and swings fairly easily. came sharpened, though it isnt a razor edge. sharp enough to cut, just not razor blade sharp.
overall, a great buy. i am glad i bought this.

Elite Forces Survival Bowie Review

(More customer reviews)So, I looked at this knife, read the reviews, and made the purchase. I didn't expect a hundred dollar knife, but I also didn't expect a piece of crap either. This thing won't cut cotton twine! I used it to cut through some plant roots in some potted plants. The finish wore off after inserting it into the root ball about two dozen times. And, I had to struggle to make it go through the potting soil, and baby, thread-like plant roots. "SURVIVAL KNIFE"? Yeah, if your stuck in a tub of soft butter, it might help you to cut your way out.
I've read that if one puts a new edge on the knife, it will work better. I'm not much good at that sort of thing, but I may try to find someone who can do it for me. I'll give the knife another chance after it gets PROPERLY sharpened. Don't think for a minute, that the factory grind they put on this thing has a sharp edge. You will hurt yourself trying to cut anything.
Remember - it looks real cool, but it isn't much good for any cutting right out of the box. And, don't expect it to remain looking cool, if you actually intend to use to in the field.
If it actually can get, and maintain a good edge, I will amend my opinion. But, for now, even at 23 bucks, I think everyone is throwing away their money.
