Universal Handcuff Key Black Review

Universal Handcuff Key Black
Average Reviews:

When I seen this key I was so happy, looks good and at a good price.
But when I got it in the mail I tried it on 3 different types of (all police issued) cuffs and it didn't fit any of them.
Had to give it 2 stars because at least it does LOOK good, but that's about it. Don't waste your time, it says universal but they didn't say what universe it works in cause it's not this one.

This is an amazing weapon. It is exceptionally well-made, and despite being very heavy, it is well-balanced and feels very good in the hand. Please note that despite the name, this weapon is NOT flexible at all (it's not a "traditional" whip).

Smith & Wesson CK33 4.7" Hawk Bill Plain Blade Extreme Ops Review

Smith and Wesson CK33 4.7 Hawk Bill Plain Blade Extreme Ops
Average Reviews:

Excellent Blade, beautiful knife, my only concern is the liner lock. Under actual use, practicing with the knife, at least once now, with your hand directly over the liner lock during a downslice, the lock failed (well, not failed, but the position of my hand slipped enough on the knife while cutting through a hanging pig that it released the lock on recovering my stance) and the blade nearly closed on me. I have a small cut from it, fortunately there was no pressure on the backside of the blade to cut me deeply.
I have practiced with it a lot more and haven't had that problem since, but this was my first non-fixed blade karambit. I think I'm going to stick to fixed blades.

Self Defense Keychain Kubotan Review

Self Defense Keychain Kubotan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a fine weapon for the average citizen who is not inclined to carry a knife or handgun, but it cannot be as effective as a cane or a police baton, two other alternatives to consider. The cane is perhaps the most innocent seeming yet it has reach advantages over the kubotan and will deal a most damaging strike.
The above review is a good one, but please ignore the advice about sharpening keys and using the kubotan as a flail. This is unlikely to provide any real stopping power to a determined attacker. The kubotan excels as a loadfist weapon, so use it to enhance your hammerfist and punch strikes. You can also use the point to 'stab' your attacker's body points and bony targets like the back of the hand can be excruciatingly painful when struck. In other words use the kubotan like it was intended to do so. Nowhere in any traditional yawara training is it used like a mini-flail like the above poster suggested.

The kubotan is a pressure point self defense device. the principal areas for attacks in self-defense include bony, fleshy and nerve targets such as knuckles, forearms, bridge of the nose, shins, stomach, solar plexus, spine, temple, ribs, groin, neck, eyes etc. The Kubotan is usually held in either an icepick grip (for hammerfist strikes) or forward grip (for stabbing and pressure point attacks). Common uses include hardening the fist (fistload) for punching, attacking vulnerable parts of an assailant's body, and gaining leverage on an assailant's wrist, fingers and joints. With keys attached, it can also function as a flailing weapon.Self Defense keychain kubotan Composition: polymerLength: 5 7/16"Weight: 2.4 oz.Color: Black

Cold Steel African Walking Stick, 37-Inch Review

Cold Steel African Walking Stick, 37-Inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had seen the African Walking Stick/Knobkerrie in the Cold Steel catalog and was struck by the familiar design. Despite the dearth of reviews, I put it on the Christmas wish list. And here it is Christmas day and I have one in my hand. (Makes it a bit hard to type...)
I have a vintage African walking stick, purchased at auction, that has been my companion on many walks over the years. It has held up well, but the tip now shows some wear and there are chunks missing out of the knob (perhaps from contact with another "knob", long before I had it). I wanted a "workhorse" version of the original, one I could bash up and thus save the antique from further distress.
The two sticks are beside me now, for comparison. The Cold Steel version is about 2 inches shorter and half again as thick in the shaft as the wooden one; the knobs are about the same size, though the burl head on my wooden one is more oval than round. I've just put them on a scale -- the polypropylene stick is just under 2 ounces heavier.
I am 6'4", and one of the things which attracted me to the Cold Steel stick was the 37" length -- many canes/sticks are shorter, and the 37" length is about the lower limit for me to have a comfortable angle of the arm when resting a stick on the ground. But this design is not really intended to serve as a cane; "walking sticks" are sticks you have with you when walking, and are typically carried rather than rapped upon the ground. The knob serves as a mace head for defense, but also is a counterbalance for the shaft, important for proper swinging of the arm.
The two sticks have very similar balance points, which suggests to me observation and care on the part of the designer(s) since a poor balance more rapidly tires the arm. Bent strongly across the knee, the polypropylene stick flexes less than 2 inches, then instantly returns to straightness. Rapped on the floor, the stick makes a good solid "thud". The knob fits comfortably in my largish hand; the knob might be slightly too large and the stick slightly too heavy for a person of slight frame to use constantly. The "beaded" shaft makes for a good grip.
Overall, I give this stick high marks. It is a worthy version of a classic design, and I look forward to having it with me on walks/hikes. Nothing better than having a third leg on a steep trail, or a longer arm with a heavier fist when things get tight.
------------------------------------------
Followup --
I've had this product for a while now and am returning with some further impressions/insight.
Something I had been concerned about was the thermal characteristic of the polypropylene plastic; specifically, whether it would be uncomfortably chilly for winter use. I find the plastic is similar to wood in how it heats up and cools off -- I left it in the car overnight in below-freezing weather, took it in my bare hand in the morning, and it warmed up like the wooden staff I had left beside it. It will be a while before I can try the black material in full desert sun.
I've been putting the stick through the paces, and have found several uses for it which would perhaps surprise the makers:
1) Isometric exercise. Hold the stick with straight arms at chest level, gripping it with one hand at each end (one hand just below the knob), and put it under pressure like you are trying to bend it. (It will flex slightly.) While keeping it under tension, raise your straight arms in front of you until they are over your head, then reverse and bring the stick back down to your thighs. Now do the same thing with the stick vertical in front of you, and twist from side to side while keeping the stick flexed. A surprisingly effective workout; the stick flexes just enough to engage the muscles to keep it under tension, and your chest muscles get a workout too. Exchange your grip and repeat -- the "bead" toward the bottom of the stick is smaller than the one near the knob, and exchanging hands gives a different workout to hand and forearm. Try also a motion to the side like you are paddling a canoe, while keeping the stick under tension.
2) Tote yoke. I tried hanging two full bags (15-20 lbs each) on the stick. The beads keep the handles from slipping off, and the bead at the balance point makes for a natural grip when carrying at your side -- *much* more comfortable than carrying the same bags by the handles and easy to switch from hand to hand. I tried the same arrangement resting across my shoulder, and found the beads make a reasonably comfortable rest there. (A bandanna/t-shirt wrapped around that point might make it more comfortable for a long haul.) Instant yoke for carrying bags or buckets.
3) Foot massager. OK, I know this one is "out there" for people primarily considering this as a self-defense weapon, but it works! Roll the stick across the floor under your foot, with medium pressure. The various-sized beads on the staff allow different pressure points, and the geodesic head is great under the arch. After a long hike, a good way to relax the feet.
The only problem I found with the stick was a small, slightly sharp molding seam that went across one edge of the geodesic head. An emery board made short work of smoothing that off. I will say again that the stick may be slightly too heavy for daily use by a smaller person.
I continue to be pleased with this stick, and recommend it along the lines I have discussed.

Adapted for the western marketplace, the Cold Steel African Walking Stick features some of the best parts of traditional Zulu Kerries like an undulating shaft, and the traditional geodesic ball grip. However, instead of using a costly exotic hardwood, we've made ours out of black Polypropylene. This means that, in addition to being unbreakable, it's also impervious to the elements. It will never rot, warp, crack, splinter, swell, shrink, mildew or fade, and it's ready for all the wear and tear you, and the world, can dish out. Although its primary mission is to be a walking stick to aid one's balance when crossing uneven, slippery, wet or rough terrain, it can also serve as a pointer, lever, or probe. It also makes a formidable tool for self-defense in an emergency.

Just got this item a few days ago and am quite pleased with it. Its solid aluminum, smooth with grooves cut in to give a better grip. Just lightly taping it on the back of my hand was enough to cause some pain, one can only imagine what a hard whack with this would feel like. I bought this on a whim but now am glad that I did. I hike a lot in desert country and really like this to sweep the grass and check for snakes. Not recommended if you need something for stability.

this is a decent product. It's made out of solid aluminum. It weighs about a pound, so its not very light. Also the picture and the description say it's red, but it is definitely pink. overall great product. try not to hit anything super hard though, like dried cement or a harder metal, because it will dent/Scratch the kubotan

Click Here to see more reviews about: Kubotan Keychain Red Rounded 3102-R 2 Pack

The Kubotan increases the power of any strike. It is not necessary to waste time or miss an opportunity by trying to be overly precise. It's better to react naturally. Good targets are the groin, stomach, solar plexis, throat, the arm, the shin, hip bone, collarbone, ankle, and kneecap. A sharp strike to a bony part of the body will encourage an assailant to stop his attack. A harder, well placed blow can easily break bones--especially if the force of the blow is not hindered by clothing. The most basic applications involve striking or poking vulnerable areas of the body with the Kubotan. Generally speaking, swinging strikes work better against bony surfaces while fleshy areas are more susceptible to pokes and jabs with the ends of the Kubotan. With this concept in mind, a person avoids the confusion and frustration of trying to remember specific strikes for specific targets. Instead, one simply remembers to strike bones and poke soft tissue and pressure points. There is no wrong strike. Just hit as hard as you can the closest body part. The strike does not have to be perfect. Since nerves are close to the surface of most bony parts, even a glancing blow will inflict enough pain to make your assailant think twice about continuing his attack. You can also use the keys that you have attached to the kuboton. You can hold the kuboton and swing the keys. Most effective when you hit the face. The kuboton is legal and entirely unregulated. To most people, the Kubotan is little more than a nondescript key ring. While the Kubotan is not particularly intimidating, it remains an effective self defense installment. It really can save your life. The Kubotans are made of aluminum and come in various colors and have either pointed or flat tips.

Kubaton (Short) Yawara/self-defense Keychain (Polymer) Review

Kubaton (Short) Yawara/self-defense Keychain (Polymer)
Average Reviews:

Buyer Beware!
I bought this because the ad and description stated that it's made of polymer and had a pocket clip. What I got instead was an aluminum kubaton with NO pocket clip. Looks similar to the picture but the middle portion of the one I received has tighter spirals not unlike a screw threading. It did have a keyring as pictured. If I'd have known it was aluminum, I would've bought the one that costs 1/3 of this. I emailed the vendor, so I'll leave an update on how they do to make this right.
Update:
Vendor refunded the purchase immediately - no questions asked. At least they owned up to their error and I hope they correct the description soon. It's nice to see that there are still vendors out there with good business ethics, so they are - still - worth doing business with.

Cold Steel FGX Jungle Dart Review

Cold Steel FGX Jungle Dart
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked up three of these to play around with. I've enjoyed throwing knives in the past, and am not an expert, but here are my observations.
First off, remember that I won't be held liable for anything I say here if you hurt yourself playing with these. They are in fact intended to be used as weapons, and will very handily put out an eye or cause extreme bleeding. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Now, on to the review:
Before attempting to throw these, I removed the metal rings to improve balance and air flow. This was not hard. I just took a pair of pliers to them and they came off quickly and easily.
First off, the bad. All of these 'faults' are in fact strengths of the tool, and make it more effective for the uses for which it was INTENDED. They just happen to make it less effective for having fun throwing them at things. The Jungle Dart's main fault when it comes to throwing is its weight. I highly doubt that throwing these outdoors work out, as they would fly off target in the slightest wind. The second fault is the grippiness of the rubberized handle, which makes it very difficult to execute a sliding throw, as would (I believe) normally be used for a straight shuriken. And finally, I think the 'one-sided' shape of these darts can cause them to not fly true. The blade is concave on one side, and forms a flat triangle on the other side, which seems to cause air to flow unevenly and can carry them slightly off target.
That said, my friend and I had a great hour or so tearing up a cardboard box with these, IN MY LIVING ROOM, and therein lies the benefit of something like the JD. No sane person would dare toss a real knife - or other pointy, metal object - around his living room. But the JD is light enough and 'soft' enough that we didn't cause any harm to any surrounding objects. We did take care to move my wife's coats away from the corner where the box was standing, but even after ricocheting off of my leather jacket a couple of times, it showed no damage (although I doubt that we nailed it with the tip). After an hour of throwing, all three of the darts had lost their pristine tip and one has a notch in the edge, but they are still plenty pointy (and strong) to easily pierce cardboard, and, by my assessment, skin, although I don't intend to fully test this.
As far as using this tool for its intended purpose (seriously injuring people), I have no doubts that it would prove most efficient. At the time of purchase, the edges and point are as sharp as you could expect a 'plastic' tool to be, and would be very efficient for raking, slashing or stabbing. The item is small and light, and would be fairly easy to carry around, but I would not put it in a pocket. If you put it in point down, the point will quickly wear a hole in the bottom of the pocket. If you put it in point up, expect to skewer your hand on it next time you absent-mindedly reach for your keys. For carrying, you'll want to either make a sheath or else use the metal ring to neck-carry it. Or, as Cold Steel advertises, tape it to some part of your body. Just please don't try to take it through airport security, otherwise I will mock you and call you an idiot. Oh, and you'll go to jail.
So all in all, I would say that the Jungle Dart is a good GROWN UP 'toy', or else a decent 'tool' with specific intended uses.
