(More customer reviews)I am a owner of both the SOG Tactical Tomahawk and the Cold Steel Trench hawk,these two are probably the most coveted of tomahawks on the market.Fellow hunters have quoted me on which is the better buy.Well I can't decide for you,but I can list the pros and cons of both of these to decide which might be better for you...
COLD STEEL TRENCH HAWK
Pro:Blade is made from Cobalt Steel
Con:Cobalt Steel can easily rust
Pro:The blade and spike design are definitely geared towards hunting
Con: The Trench Hawk is pretty limited to use in hunting only
Pro:The handle is sturdy polymer at 19" in length
Con:The handle has no textured grip
Pro:The Trench Hawk comes with a hardshell sheath that's really unique
Con:The sheath has no belt loopSOG TACTICAL TOMAHAWK
Pro:the sheath is button opened with a belt loop
Con:The sheath is made from nylon,a semi cheaply made sheath
Pro:The blade is made from stainless steel so it will not rust easily
Con:stainless steel is not as strong as cobalt steel
Pro:the spike is extended for greater reach
Con:the spike is not very sharp,needs a sharpening stone's touch
Pro:has a sturdy polymer handle with textured grip
Con: overall the tomahawk is 15 3/4" this could strike the user as small if you've carried larger tomahawks(but this could be a pro,depending on the user)
Pro:the vietnam tomahawk design allows it to be great for camping,hunting,and climbing-lots of uses,it's your swiss army knife's companion.
Con and Conclusion:The SOG is very sharp and can be used for hunting,but due to it's shorter handle and slightly less aggressive design it's recommended you keep it very sharp,if your only interest in a tomahawk is for brute force then go with the Cold Steel Trench Hawk.Personally, I bought both because I couldn't decide which one I liked better,they're both highly recommended!

Frontier Hawk, Hickory Handle Review

(More customer reviews)So, I purchased this tomahawk hoping it could serve as my backcountry chopping tool. It wasn't exactly what I had expected, but it is still a fine tool. The hawk is made of 1055 carbon, a very tough wilderness steel. For comparison, a standard USMC KA-BAR is 1095 (CroVan), so in the same ballpark. I was disappointed when I first got this hawk, it came extremely dull. I've purchased from Cold Steel before, and all of their products usually come screaming sharp. Not sure why they didn't put an edge on this one...
Anyways, I was easily able to put an edge on it with simple tools (one of the pros of 1055). The other thing that I had not been aware of (can't see in the pic) is the thickness of the hawk. I only have experienced with Fiskars axes, and all of them are thick and wedge shaped. Thats not the case with this hawk, its blade is relatively thin throughout, making it not the best spittler, since you can only force in as far as the handle before it will get stuck. This does make it more lightweight though.
What is does do well though is throw. I've thrown it many times now, and I have yet to find any hawk that flys better. A pro of the thin head is that it easily buries into the target with even minimal force. Overall a good tool, if you know what to use it for.

I've had this hawk for a while now, and while the original issues (see above) still exist, I consider it a great tool. I recently broke the handle (entirely my fault) and when I ordered a replacement I received the 22" variety, and I have to say this improves the hawk 100%. 19 inches (the original size it will come with) is just a little too short to get two handed leverage on, but 22 is perfect. You can really wind up and get some real force behind it, which makes this a great chopper. I find it throws better too. You can still use it one handed, it's perhaps a tad more unwieldy, but still perfectly usable. All in all, a great purchase and a great hawk.

Cold Steel Two Handed Katana Machete Sheath Cover Review

(More customer reviews)It sounds great, right? A katana you can really use, without worrying about messing up your beautiful blades... Now for the bad news.
This is no katana. It's straight, not curved, weighted all wrong and over half of it is handle---a very hard, very painful handle. If you should actually try and chop anything---more the fool, you---the vibration whacks your hand hard enough to hurt. The only sweet spot, if there is one, is very near the handle and so, useless.
This 'katana' is not good for much, really. It's a poor machete, a lousy hoe, a rotten pruner and too dull for a hedger. As for a weapon, you'd be better armed with a rock in a sock.
Great price, though.

6 Foot Bo Staff w/ Cord Grip Review

(More customer reviews)I ordered this staff last summer and upon receiving it, found it to be nothing like the description. Fist of all, it was a three piece staff, which eliminated the flexibility a good bo is supposed to have. Secondly, it is two to three times as thick as a real bo, and extremely heavy. The "cord" grip is actually a shoelace-like string that comes off easily after handling the staff for a couple days, and the glue underneath sticks for good, so you get a sticky-hand bludgeoning stick.
Oh, and the icing on the cake? It was a "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" staff, in box, with the name "Leonardo" emblazoned in big letters with a picture of the purple-masked cartoon character on the front. Don't waste your time or money on this. Spend the extra cash and go to a real martial arts supplier or website.
