Handmade Sharp Japanese Samurai Sword Musashi Wakizashi Review

Handmade Sharp Japanese Samurai Sword Musashi Wakizashi
Average Reviews:

Sharpness: This sword did pass the paper test, but is not razor sharp. It does cut through plastic milk bottles and such with only slight scuffing of the blade, nothing too major or noticeable if you arent looking closely. Pool noodles posed a challenge though. It is sharp enough to cut them, but due to their light weight and bendy nature met with a somewhat sharp blade, it is a challenge. I just barely cut through free-standing soaked beach mats and while im sure my technique isnt perfect, I know its higher than "casual backyard cutter" level.
It seems to be a little more durable than the katana equivilent of this sword I have. No dents so far. I havent done any destructive testing, but my conclusions for this sword's durability is that it is acceptable for it's class.
Fittings: The fittings are acceptable quality and seem to be painted a black finish (except for the 'seppa'). The 'samegawa' might actually be real, albeit low quality. Still a step up from a fake plastic alternative. Unfortunately, its just two strips, not a full wrap. The 'mekugi' are tight fitting and difficult to take out. When I tried to take the handle off, I had a lot of difficulty. A tight handle is good, but not this tight. I noticed a slight crack in the wood, but not where it would compromise the integrity too much. The 'ito' is not wrapped 100% authentically, but it doesnt look bad and is tight enough. Could be tighter, but I can deal with it.
Scabbard: The scabbard is decent. The 'sageo' reminds me of a shoelace, but it works. It is the same color as the 'ito', navy blue. The sword was very secure in the scabbard, even when I jiggled it around. That lasted for like 2 days and after 4, it became loose enough to fall out when held upside down, even without any movement.
Noteable Cons: The temper line is clearly fake. It looks wirebrushed. I personally would rather have no visible temper line than a fake one, but thats just me. Some people may not care.
However, my biggest complaint about this sword is that the blade is bent to the right. It could just be a defect. I put it in a vice (covered in a cloth of course) and carefully bent it. I couldnt get it to straighten out as perfect as id like. I may try again. The scabbard is also bent in the same direction and the 'koiguchi' not aligned with the scabbard perfectly, but not enough to make sheathing the sword difficult. Furthermore, the blade tip is awkwardly shaped. You might see it in the picture I posted if you look closely. Its almost like it straightens out when it should continue to curve. I could fix this if I had a belt or disk sander...but I dont.
Overall, im both satisfied and disapointed with this sword. Displaying in my room or through my obi, this sword looks great...but not so much when drawn. Its performance and feel are acceptable for the price. Im giving it 4 out of 5 stars due to the defects mentioned above, but at least it looks nice when in it's scabbard and performs as expected. If the blade didnt look like it did, I would have rated this a full 5 stars considering everything else and it's performance.

Last Samurai Musashi Handhorned Katana Sword with Free Gift Box Review

Last Samurai Musashi Handhorned Katana Sword with Free Gift Box

Too bad my wife had already ordered by the time the last reviewer put up his review. I too was sent the wrong sword. The hilt (sorry, I don't know the name) is wrong. The guard is not the same design and the handle has some sort of (fake?) leather wrap instead of the standard cord wrap.
It also does not even have a hamon. I know the Last Samurai has a wire brushed hamon but this sword has none.
I have no guarantee that this is even a Musashi sword. There was no certificate of authenticity with serial numbers that all other Musashi swords I have seen have. Looking at the Musashi lineup there is not even a sword that matches this one.
It came with a little "Last Samurai" movie card tied to the hilt. Seemed a little cheesy and out of place (kind of like "see, it IS the Last Samurai movie sword!"). It does blade engraving which appears to be ok. There are no Musashi branded marks that I can find (only a "China" stamp on the other side of the blade).
The presentation is nice, the construction is tight, and the blade itself appears to be carbon steel but without a certificate or any sort of specifications, I have no idea if this thing is even safe to use. The blade also had a small chip (which I could cure with sharpening if I decided to keep it).
Regardless, this is not what I ordered and its not even close to what the product picture shows. I'm going to have my wife request a return. She was so excited to get this for me so I will probably break her heart :(
I guess there is a reason this price is $20 cheaper than everywhere else.
Buyer beware.

Handmade Practical Musashi Samurai Katana Sword Sharp Review

Handmade Practical Musashi Samurai Katana Sword Sharp
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just got my Musashi katana today. Another reviewer on Amazon said he thought the blade on his sword was excellent fot the money, but that the rest of the sword needed a lot of work. I agree. While the blade wasn't terribly sharp out of the box, a little work with my ceramic hones brought the edge up to my standards. Still not as sharp as a good pocket knife, but okay for a sword. The blade also held its edge decently when I started cutting. For the money, this is by far the best blade I have seen, and I just ordered another sword so I could have another one of these wonderful blades at a great price.
The handle needs some work, though. Actually, I think most of it just needs to be replaced. The synthetic ray-skin is a little off-putting, but the real problem is with its fit. After chopping through a few small green branches (about 1/2 inch diameter) out in the yard, and striking a chunk of cedar a few times, the handle is getting quite loose. This is a pretty abusive way to treat a sword and I don't recommend this treatment for yours, but I wanted to torture it a little and see how it held up. I should have used tatami mats, but didn't have any. The blade did great, but as I said it now pops back and forth within the handle. In combat, when striking hard surfaces or parrying, this handle could not be trusted. I will replace mine, although I'll probably re-use most of the hardware. I expect I'll then have the combat equivalent of a $150-$200 katana. The blade is that good, IMHO. No complaints about the sheath.
If you want a hall-hanger or a costume piece, this one will do nicely for the money. But, you could spend less and have a nicer-looking sword. There are a few cosmetic blemishes here and there. Also, as this is carbon steel, there is the distinct possibility of rust. I'd be happier with a stainless sword for costume use. Stainless swords are often lighter and easier to carry, anyway. This sword is perfect if you need a practical, functional sword on a budget and don't mind having to do some work on it. It is also perfect if you want a wall-hanger or costume sword that could be used to fight in a pinch.
To be completely fair, even though I don't think stainless should be used for sword blades, one of my SCA friends says he used his stainless katana to clear brush a few years ago and it held up great. Apparently, some of the stainless blades can also be used to fight in a pinch. So, take your pick.

The blade of the sword is hand crafted and constructed of carbon steel with a hamon (Habuchi, The transition zone from soft to hard steel) along the edge of the blade. The scabbard of the sword is wooden with a high gloss black lacquer finish. The guard of the sword begins with a bronze blade collar. The sword is full tang and secured by two wooden pins in the handle of the sword.

Cheness - 30" 9260 Spring Steel Japanese Samurai Katana Review

Cheness - 30 9260 Spring Steel Japanese Samurai Katana
Average Reviews:

This is a wonderful sword. Its looks to be mirror polished and the fittings are very tight. It is as authentic as production swords go. Its long and slender form sings through the air when you swing it. It does not take much time to build up to it from a 28 inch blade. All in all, not much else can be said since blades this size are pretty standard. However Cheness blades are known for cutting saplings and chopping wood. But like all blades, it would endure some edge damage.
It is unfortunate Cheness does not produce even longer blades than the 30 or the 33. It would be interesting to see what they would come up with.

Handmade Japanese Shirasaya Samurai Katana Sword Sharp Review

Handmade Japanese Shirasaya Samurai Katana Sword Sharp
Average Reviews:

This is not a toy: this is a fully sharpened, high carbon (not stainless) steel shirasaya.
I bought it based on the reviews at sword-buyers-guide.com, where it is demonstrated to cut bamboo like butter.
The habaki (brass collar between the blade and the handle) rattles a bit, but that's minor.
As with all shirasaya, extreme caution is called for, as the rosewood handle, while beautiful, offers a pretty poor grip when compared to wrapped ray skin.
All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase. Strongly recommended.

Trademark Handmade Forged Steel Samurai Sword with Wood Dragon Scabbard Review

The sword arrived in only a couple days and is in decent condition, it is sharp enough and it looks mostly like the picture, except the scabbard is just natural wood with stencils of several dragons on it, it is not really the color shown and most of the dragons were scratched of so it just looks bad, my other big problem is the add says a presentation box and there is not one at all, they also have this for sale showing the box for 10 dollars less which I found today. I do not recommend this to anyone, there are many other better swords for cheaper with everything they claim.

Cold Steel US Marine Corps Officer Saber Review

Cold Steel US Marine Corps Officer Saber
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I heard that Cold Steel was producing Marine Officer and NCO swords, I knew that I had to get one. My first knife I ever bought was a Cold Steel pocket tanto and I have been a loyal Cold Steel customer ever since. I have been looking for a real Mameluke sword for quite some time and this was exactly what I was looking for. The swords that we have to purchase at the Basic School are made of stainless steel, cost between $400 and $700 depending on the vendor, and do not hold up too well after a tour as a Series and Company Commander at MCRD PI. The blade of my sword is about to fall off the handle and most of the anodized brass is scuffed and scratched beyond repair after six graduations and all of the associated practices. So while I would hesitate to use this sword for Drill and Ceremonies (it is razor sharp) it looks better than the one I bought at the Basic School and is much more durable.
Pros
-Real Brass on all the brass work. If it is scratched, buff it out. Plus let's be honest Marines, real brass looks better than all the anodized stuff we use these days.
-Solid construction, watch the video of this model going through the British proof test on Cold Steel's website. Close Order Drill won't break this sucker.
-Razor sharp, combat ready sword just like the one Lt Pressley O'Bannon was given by Prince Hamet Karamali after defeating the Barbary Pirates and Smedley Butler carried in China.
Cons
-Razor sharp, look for ears laying on Peatross parade deck if Marines start using these for graduation at Parris Island.
-Won't pass the Basic School inspection, sorry Lt's, you are still going to have to buy the expensive stainless steel fake sword like every other Lt before you.
-Requires a bit more maintenance than our issued stainless swords, if you aren't careful, these will rust.
Overall this is a great product, and Amazon offers it at a great price.

While we heartily approve of our Armed Forces wearing dress swords and sabers, we thought it was a shame that only unsharpened, poorly tempered wall hangers made of weak stainless steel are all that's available. That's why we decided to make our own truly battle worthy reproductions. They're faithful in every detail to government specifications; they offer highly polished blades, appropriate etching and quality hilts and scabbards. The only real changes we have made are to drastically improve their performance as weapons by forging them from 1050 Carbon Steel and properly heat treating them to a tough spring temper before sharpening. In the case of the Marine Corps Officer's Saber, we have changed the hilt to solid mirror polished brass (not easily worn gold plate) and improved the attachment of the tang to the hilt so it could better withstand the rigors of sword to sword combat.

Traditional Samurai Dragon Katana Sword Blue Review

Traditional Samurai Dragon Katana Sword Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This sword is an OK sword. It's length and weight make it feel more than just a decorative sword, and the blade is attached well to the hilt so that it doesn't helicopter off into the neighbor's yard. This sword is a low grade stainless steel, not a high carbon steel as advertised; this means that it is pretty much for decoration or swinging only, not for any sword to other material contact. The blade is usually a little off balance due to the size difference between the blade and the attachment to the tsuba (guard). This is a great deal for the price + shipping in comparison to purchases in a store. A sword like this in a shop would normally be around $120.00.

I received this sword well ahead of the time they said it would take to receive it. I am also very satisfied with the overall look of the sword. It came with a lovely case and the blade was pretty as well as sharp(not razor but still worth speaking of). My main complaint is that the strength of the steel was not much to speak of. I cut through several boxes and it cut readily but as soon as I tried to take it through a drum stick it dented easily. So my overall judgment is that if you want a lovely blade for display then this is a good choice. I do not however advise it for cutting through anything harder than boxes.

The Tsuka of the sword is Ray Skin with a black cotton wrap. The Menuki are oxidized copper dragons. Two bamboo Mekugi secure the blade in the Tsuka.T This sword is made with high temper carbon steel that can cut steel wire without chipping, and can cut through bamboos easily. It is a full tang sword and can be fully disassembled. The Sword is measured at 40" overall long, the blade is measured at 28.5" long. The sword comes with a beautiful container boxHistoryTakeda Shingen is considered one of the most well-known and successful Daimyo (warlord) of the Japanese Sengoku (Warring State) period. The stories between him and his legendary rival Uesugi Kenshin have appeared in numerous movies, books, and video games. Besides his success in battlefields, Takeda Shingen was also an accomplished poet in his youth. Shingen had a profound effect on the period in Japan. He influenced many lords with his law system, tax system and administration system. He was probably not as cruel as other warlords, but he was aggressive toward military enemies. His war banner contained the famous phrase F?-Rin-Ka-Zan, taken from Sun Tzu's 'The Art of War.' This phrase refers to the idea of Swift as the Wind, Silent as a Forest, Fierce as Fire and Immovable as a Mountain, as engraved on the tsuba of this sword. The phrase demonstrates both Shingen's policies and warfare strategy.

Masahiro Japanese Sword Black Katana Assembly Kit Review

Masahiro Japanese Sword Black Katana Assembly Kit
Average Reviews:

Masahiro is notorious for unreliable quality; sometimes you get a superb blade that is worth much more than what you paid, sometimes you don't. Almost always the parts fit too loosely. However, if you are looking for a sword that will cut jipdan (straw mats) without having to worry about banging it up, this is the sword you want. The Handle is a bit short for most; I am used to it and have come to prefer it, but you may not. For the price, it is a good deal.

Full Size Samurai Sword Fully Handmade Razor Sharp Musashi Katana Review

Full Size Samurai Sword Fully Handmade Razor Sharp Musashi Katana
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Sharpness: This sword is defenatly not razor sharp and couldnt even pass the paper test. This can be either good or bad depending on your purpose for this sword. It's sharpness is like halfway between dangerous and "safe". If you are using it as a practice iaito, its too sharp for that. If you are using it for heavy tameshigiri, its too blunt for that. Please be careful as it is still somewhat sharp, but wasnt sharp enough to cut my finger when I gave the edge a light tap. I wouldnt advise doing this with any sword unless you are absolutely sure you wont hurt yourself. Gatorade bottles seem a bit too thick for this sword. Cutting through milk jugs, I noticed no problems and little resistance.
During cuttings tests, I missed where I was aiming and hit the cap of a large Gatorade jug. I cut through, but it left a slight dent on the edge. It is very small and not easily noticable, but its still there. The sharpness has quickly gone away and I now notice cutting milk jugs is more difficult but still easy. Any blade will lose its sharpness with use, but because 1045 steel is fairly soft steel for a sword, dont expect it to hold its edge as well as 9260 or T10.
Fittings: The fittings are acceptable quality. They seem to be made of either bronze or brass and stained with a dark gray finish (except for the 'seppa') that goes away over time where my hands are. The 'same' is definitely fake and is not a full wrap, but two strips. The 'mekugi' are tight fitting but easy to take out with a 'mekuginuki' hammer. When I tried to take the handle off, I had a lot of difficulty. A tight handle is good, but not this tight. I noticed a slight crack in the wood, but not where it would compromise the integrity too much. The 'ito' is not wrapped authentically, but it doesnt look bad and is tight enough. There was some looseness with the gaurd, but adding two pieces of computer printer paper as extra spacers fixed this.
Scabbard: The scabbard is decent. Its very light and does look like wood on the inside. The finish has a few knicks at the end from accidentally bumping into things. The 'sageo' reminds me of a shoelace, but it works. It is the same color as the 'ito', navy blue. When I first got it, the sword was secure enough in the scabbard to stay put when held upside down, but now its become very loose and barely any movement will cause it to fall out. There is some rattling when I jiggle it around, but not a lot. The scabbard could be made to fit the blade better, but im satisfied with it at this price.
Noteable Cons: The temper line is clearly fake. It looks wirebrushed. I personally would rather have no visible temper line than a fake one, but thats just me. Some people may not care.
However, my biggest complaint about this sword is that the one I got had it's blade bent ever so slightly to the left. However, you might get a perfectly straight blade. I put it in a vice (covered in a cloth of course) and carefully bent it at various spots. It actually worked. However, this means that the blade is of low quality since it was able to be permenatly bent so easily. Even a top quality authentic nihonto will bend with poor technique, but this sword is far more prone to that. Dont expect amazing results with a $50 sword made of 1045 steel. Its kind of funny though, that the scabbard is also bent at the same degree and direction as the blade was before I straightened it. Unfortunately I cant straighten it like I did with the blade.
I have owned this sword for about 3 months since my posting of this review. Rated 4 stars for being an excellent sword in its class, but with a few cons. While on the lower end of the functional category, this is still a decent sword and good for light practice. Dont expect a high quality authentic katana, but it is worth the price. At least its not a wall hanger. If you have any questions, id be glad to answer them the best I can.

Cherry Blossom Samurai Sword Set
I bought what was supposed to be the Cherry Blossom Samurai Sword Set and instead I was sent a set that was totally different. I contacted the seller and informed them what had happened and in a couple of day they got in contact with me. They admited that they gave me the wrong set then proceeded to give me some BS story about how the set sent to me was worth more then the one that I ordered and offerd to let me keep that one at no additional charge. Really they just wanted to keep from having to pay more shipping fees for their screw up. I declined and was told that they would send the correct order along with the return slip so it wouldn't cost me anything. I have given them over a month, more then enough time to correct their mistake and the set that I wanted was NEVER SENT TO ME. In other words... THESE GUYS SUCK AND DON'T ORDER ANYTHING FROM THEM EVER!
Thank you

This review is for an item that the seller has removed from their store. This was the absolute worst Amazon.com purchase I ever made. I ordered the item in the first week of December, with an estimated delivery date of Dec 17-Dec22nd. Christmas came and I still didn't have the item (a gift for my brother). After multiple phone calls, emails, false promises and lies, I gave up hope on receiving it before the new year. I got the item sometime in January. It was good but I received it so late and the customer service was awful.
The people that actually answered the phone (during this time it was rare that anyone answered at all, the phone would just ring constantly) were completely unprofessional and full on lied to me about shipping out my product. One guy said that he'd send me a coupon to use at the store as a measure of good faith-I asked him if he'd remember to send it later because his "system was down". His answer was "well, I might forget. So if you don't get it, just call me back and remind me?" COMPLETE IDIOTS!!!! I'll never again buy from this company.

The Fudo Myoo symbol is engraved on one side of the blade and other side is decorated with an engraved dragon. The blade has been polished to a mirror finish with a hand sharpened edge, partially lining the blade is a thick hi (blood groove) which appears on both blade sides; forged using the Japanese Maru technique. Looked good in the picture, but was clearly junk when I got it. I assumed the $8 in shipping was making up for the low cost of what appeared to be a decent product.. but I was very wrong.

Handmade Sharp Japanese Samurai Shirasaya Katana Sword w/ High Gloss Wood Saya Review

Handmade Sharp Japanese Samurai Shirasaya Katana Sword w/ High Gloss Wood Saya

The Good:
The item looks good just as pictured. The blade is very sharp and mono steel. Not sure what kind of metal it is. Scabbard is very tight. Great item for the price compared to other blades in its price range. Better than nothing when it comes to home defense and zombie apocalypse.
The Bad:
The Scabbard is very tight. Be careful when opening! High gloss will make item not too functional and slippery after extended use so its best for display. The worse thing though is this blade being "full tang" is highly suspect. The feel of the blade below the notch is noticeably not solid.
