It velcros onto your belt so if you plan on walking through thick timber plan on losing this knife. I would recomend saving the money and ordering the regular fabric case.

The blade it's self is fine, sturdy with a nice heft, but I would prefer it if it were a solid blade instead of having about a third of it serrated. All and all, I wouldn't suggest it but it works so I can't be too harsh.

Ka-Bar Becker BK9 Combat Bowie Fixed Blade Knife Review

(More customer reviews)The BK9 "Combat Bowie" is a pretty big knife but it can stand up to some pretty heavy duty jobs. I have one of these knives in the storage building at home and one in the tool box of my truck while my wife has a BK7 in her SUV. These knives are tough enough to chop wood if you need to chop wood but they maintain their edge for finer cutting. They are handy for camping chores as well as home landscaping when an axe or machete is too much and a pocket knife is not enough. I bought the Becker knives several years ago when the prices were substantially lower than what they are today, thus the multiple units I own. About the same time I bought the Becker knives, I also bought a semi-custom knife from a well-respected company with a reputation as one of the strongest, sharpest heavy duty knives around. That knife cost over three times the price of the Becker BK9 and, honestly, it's not any better, any stronger, any sharper or any nicer although it did come with a nicer sheath.
While the price of the Becker has increased over the years, it's still a bargain in comparison to the competition. There's no reason to spend the extra money for a heavy-duty utility knife as long as the Becker BK knives are around.

(More customer reviews)This knife is a spin off of the K-bar brand. I bought it specifically because it had the non-slip rubber grip that I wanted without spending $70.
Look, spending 10 bucks for a knife means you are going to sacrifice something, but with this knife at the price it's not too much. The knife definitely has some weight to it and has a good feel in the hand. The grip is also non-slip. About the biggest disappointment is that the blade itself although made of stainless, has a rather matte finish to it instead of a polished gleam. This seems to be a trend even in higher priced models. However the blade is not flimsy and I would not want to be on the receiving end of it... by any means.
The sheath is a hard shell type meant to be tied around your leg so it doesn't flop around. Actually the picture of the sheath is a little misleading at first because it looks as if the knife point is meant to stick out from the end of the sheath, but that is the tie down cords that have been cropped in the picture. For the price of the knife on sale, I think it is much more worthy than simply a gag gift.

AS-8 steel is absolutely awesome! I took this knife with me on my ice fishing trip and it did everything I wanted it to do! Ice digging, frozen soil digging, wood sticks sharpening, wood splitting-everything was done with absolutely no damage to the blade. Sure, usage of this knife is somewhat limited due to size and double edge, but come on, this is a BOOT knife, not a big ass chopper! And for being a BOOT knife this is just amazing value and craftmanship.

(More customer reviews)This knife is f-ing awesome. I was a little skeptical because of the price and I was blown away by the quality. This thing is sturdy and HUGE. I bought it for a camping trip in the woods of northern California and it did not leave my side one time. It worked for everything from widdling to fish gutting to scaring off some would be drunken "bad asses".
The sheath leaves a little (just a little) to be desired as it has this smooth what I think to be cardboard on the inside to prevent the knife cutting through the nylon, which is good because this thing came pretty damn sharp. Also there is no leg strap, but I was able remedied that with a tie strap and little creativity.
This guy now has a new permanent home in my night stand drawer and I have a feeling that he will be around for a long time to come.
I would recommend this knife to anyone who is looking for a good solid utility knife. For the price you could beat the crap out of it and buy another, but I think you will end up being pleasantly surprised with your purchase.

(More customer reviews)Recently I recieved one of these knives for my 62nd birthday. FIRST, let me say,this is NOT one of those cheap hollow handle knives with a compass in the handle. This knife handle seems to be almost, if not, a full tang. The metal is nice and thick and I can see it goes well into the handle. The blade looks to be about the same thickness as the Buck 119 which sells locally for around 45 bucks. However the warranty of the Buck is better but I never registered mine. If I know it's good and they know it's good that is good enough for me. My Buck 119 is made of 420 (?) stainless which has had some stuff added to make it a high carbon steel. It's tempered very well in my opinion. It's a good very knife but it cost a LOT more. For years I have always been a Ka-Bar, Kershaw, Buck type of guy and cheap knives always look cheap in my opinion,this knife, however, does NOT look cheap to me. Immediately I see quaility. I would have guessed a knife like this to cost much more..It's made of 440 Stainless steel which comes in 3 grades, 440A,B,C..all of them are good but, sadly, the maker does not tell us which grade this knife is made from nor what rockwell hardness it's tempered to. VERY important information missing on the discription..Temper makes a big difference in knives of any metal. Good metal, bad temper = weak or brittle knife. Not the best metal BUT good temper = fairly good knife. First thing I did was to put a keen edge on it and it took it well. It takes a while to sharpen to a razor edge and requires some skill because the metal seems to be VERY hard which is good because hard metal holds an edge longer. Some people don't want a razor edge on a knife like this and it comes out of the box sharp enough for them..I have a Kershaw 1011L which I had just sharpened so I compared the two knives. BOTH Shaved big chunks of hair off my leg. My wife is going to be shocked. BUT, hey, it's improtant to me that a knife holds a razor edge, gotta test it somewhere..The sheath is similar to my Buck 119 sheath. Neither of them have a leg tie but nylon is easy to burn. A tiny hole using a red hot wire can be burned in the end and a tie can be added. I LOVE this knife..I live on a farm near a swamp and once in a while an ole cougar (or something making scary sounds) comes throught the bottoms. I carry this knife held by a belt tossed over my neck and shoulder. It rides comfortably on my chest and can be removed easily. This knife does not have a blood groove which I found strange but then my Buck 119 blood grove is not all that big and the Kershaw 1011L don't have a blood groove at all. It seems a lot of knives don't have a blood grove. Maybe they are not all that necessary. The spear point seems to be good for stabbing. Yesterday, I jamed the blades of my riding mower on some fabric. My dog had dragged his blanket into the lawn and I didn't see it in time..I was cutting, prying and abusing the heck out of my new knife getting that fabric off my blades. I took the opportunity to give this knife a test and she held up great. With all the prying I was surprised I did not break the point off. IF all M Tech knives are made this well the prices may start to rise.. I would not mind owning two of these. I am going to show a lot of my friends this knife. I have NOT chopped trees or limbs with mine and it may be the hard metal would not hold up to that type of abuse, BUT.. I don't chop limbs with my razor sharp knives anyway. I use Machete for that. .I never go into the woods with less than TWO razor sharp knives.. This knife will be my first line of defence in case of attack. My Buck 119 will be my back up and my buck 110 folder in my pocket my last knife out. The rubber handle has a hole for a lanyard located near the end. The rubber handle gives good grip with wet or bloody hands. Add a lanyard to the handle to keep from dropping it. If you google "Bear, Knife, Attack" you will read that it's possible to defend yourself against Bears and Cougars with a knife..They are becoming more agressive and I recommend every hiker carry one of these and another knife for a back up..Put the lanyard loop over your wrist if you fight a predator so you don't drop it. They may knock the knife out of your hand. Alligators are getting bad here in La.. It takes a long blade to hit the spinal cord just behind the head. That is the BEST way to stop a gator. I saw a video of a gator swimming with what looked to be a Buck 119 stuck firmly in his neck all way to the hilt. A six inch blade may not be long enough for some gators. I like the almost 9 inch long blade on this knife. It should reach a vital organ in almost any animal. I carry mine for protection..I trust my life to this knife, well almost, because I carry at least 2 knives in the woods and most of the time I carry 3. One folder and two fixed blades.. The ole woodsman that I am gives this knife 5 stars. I also give Amazon a 5 star rating for good service in the past.. NO I am NOT affilated. I am simply a happy customer who is very happy with his product..

Upon opening it, i found the knife to be in very good shape, decently sharp (although i still needed to sharpen it, and once i did, held an edge very well).
The knife is heavy, and has a very sturdy feel to it.
The smell is also slightly bothersome, but i assume it will fade through time and use.

Swamp Monster Bowie Knife Review

(More customer reviews)Here you see a huge Bowie knife for 13 $ and what you get is exactly that: huge and cheap. The blade is just as fierce looking as on the image. It is also dull as a broom stick and probably safe for small children. I tried to sharpen it with a whetstone and had some success. It is a full tang blade that was pretty well connected to the two simple wood pieces as a handle. It feels surprisingly good to hold and is relatively heavy. The guard is a quite simple piece of metal that was not well mounted on my swamp monster, rattling at every move (serious cheapness factor). The sheath as one expects is also low quality and the clip hold the knife to high on the handle as all cheap sheaths do. I suppose this monster is intended mostly for the looks and dangerous appearance. By the way, ordering through Amazon works way better than from BudK directly. Their customer service can be like a swampy monster. If you are looking for a Bowie in this price range, check out Elk Ridge, it is made a lot better.

1796 Light Cavalry Saber, Wood/Leather Scabbard Review

(More customer reviews)The 1796 pattern or Blucher saber is modeled on the Indian talwar and is *the* sword to have if you are interested in cutting weapons of the European martial tradition. There are numerous firsthand accounts of this sword's performance in battle, where it often sent limbs and heads flying. It is not that the Blucher inflicted deadlier wounds than the thrusting swords used by the French dragoons. The wounds were just far uglier to look at.
The Cold Steel model is an eminently functional example, though it's a bit nose-heavy by all accounts, making point recovery challenging. Acceleration, however, is truly frightening, which, along with the curved and very sharp edge, translates to ferocious cutting power. I find it every bit as impressive as a katana, with greater reach. I can only wonder why Japanese sword arts engender such awe and even fetishism when equally impressive European traditions are largely forgotten.
It's widely supposed that you "can't thrust" with a sword like this. While it is true that you can't fence in double time as you can with a smallsword, you certainly can thrust with a curved blade, and in fact, the curvature permits you in many cases to thrust around an opponent's guard at angles that would be impossible with a straight blade. While it feels anything but agile at first, it is really very lively if you get the feel for a few simple principles. (These are presented on the free Cold Steel Sword Proof DVD in a brief lesson that is really a teaser for the CS saber and cutlass video. Get all the free DVDs CS offers. They are huge fun.)
Some people think this is an "ugly" sword, maybe because of the brute functionality of its flared "hatchet" point and its complete lack of decorative appointments, but I find its spare utilitarianism aesthetically pleasing. It reminds me of Shaker furniture-- not one needless filigree to divert the thing from its single purpose, which in the Blucher's case is mayhem.
But who would ever use a sword for anything but decoration these days? Well, at the risk of getting laughed at, I'd say this saber is an awesome home defense weapon. Yes, I'm aware of the advent of repeating firearms, but the saber has its advantages, and I'm just going to leave it at that.
But even if all you're going to do is hang it on a wall or dismember some pool noodles with it, you can't go wrong with this sword. To me, this general-issue tool represents a peak in Western arms.

(More customer reviews)WOW! This is my second knife made by mtech and I must say they are very high quality for such a low price! This knife is incredible!!!!! It has full tang and is constructed of 440 Steel, making it very strong and durable, unlike the many hollow grip "rambo survial knives" out there with no full tang and will snap like a tooth pick. The finish on the blade is a rough crackle instead of a smooth coating like on most other knives,which gives it a slightly different look which you may or may not like. Also out of the box the sheath and rubber grip smell like petroleum, but that smell has started to fade away after some use. Another thing is that it does not have a lanyard hole in the grip as the hole is filled with a metal plug, but the plug seems to be a better feature as it goes through the full tang making the blade even more sturdy. So in conclusion, im giving it a full five stars as it meets the requirements of a good knife, something which is very hard to find at such a low price.

Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri Kraton Handle Review

(More customer reviews)this blade replaces the need to bring an axe, machete, or bowie knife. It does all the jobs in the woods. I highly reccommend it. I've put it through a ringer and it does not chip. However high carbon steel of this blade rust easy so take care to pour motor oil in the sheath so that it stays oiled. It is the right steel for the job however i wish cold steel would bring back the teflon coating of the original.
I do not recommend the san mi 3 version of this blade as my experiance with stainless is that it is too rigid and does not flex and this leads to chipping and an early "death" of the sword/blade.

(More customer reviews)In my view, this is the very best folding knife available based on its merits alone. This does not even take pricing into account. The mule has it all: thick steel liners, massive pivot pin, good quality blade steel (razor sharp) and an excellent lockback mechanism with a very stiff backspring. The lockback is a better system than cheesey framelocks or linerlocks. I have had linerlock knives fail on me, but never a lockback. In truth, any folding knife must rely on some sort of 'spring tension' to hold it open. But a lockback is designed in such a way as to make it nearly impossible for the blade to collapse during use, and the mules lock is very well executed.
Compare this knife to a Strider SNG at $400 (to start!). Some may agrue that a Strider is a better knife. Maybe. But I feel confident to say that a Strider is NOT 10 times better than a mule.
Truly, there is no better dollar-for-dollar folding knife available.
