(More customer reviews)Just got this item a few days ago and am quite pleased with it. Its solid aluminum, smooth with grooves cut in to give a better grip. Just lightly taping it on the back of my hand was enough to cause some pain, one can only imagine what a hard whack with this would feel like. Makes a good less lethal alternative to carrying a knife. Youtube has some good videos on how to use it properly, just search for kubotan.

(More customer reviews)I bought this baton to use during the police academy. I didn't want to shell out $70+ for an ASP. At initial glance the baton felt great, in fact it felt just as solid as an ASP. The 2nd bag I struck (yes the 2nd soft bag), the baton bent at a 45 degree angle and rendered it useless. There were a few others in the academy with the same baton. All of us bent them. The ASP's hold up much better, they must be made with better steel. Don't take any shortcuts with a baton, you will end up spending more in the long run like I did.

I have it in my hand any time I go for a walk in my inner-city neighborhood or run errands or enter/exit shopping centers and stores. It's a part of my keychain so it's discreet and due to the blunt end, it's something I'm even able to travel with through airports. I feel it offers me an added element of self-defense in a low-key way and by carrying it I signal to others that I'm in control of my circumstances as much as possible.
