This is supposed too be a replica of Mugen's sword form Samurai Champloo but Mugen's sword was curved so this sword is the wrong shape right off the bat. Also in the series there is a knife in the bottom of the sword's sheath. I have only seen one replica that included it though. I would consider buying a more accurate model of the sword than this because this one is really bad, and I mean really bad I have never seen a replica worse than this.

(More customer reviews)I love weapons and because of that i have bought many a katana. I also happen to love anime so this was a great oppurtunity to combine those interests. Most katans i buy basically just look good and begin to wobble after about a week of just display use, the wraps around the handle have a tendancy to become on wraped and the hilt begins to just basically fall apart after a while but this weapon is extremely well crafter for being a production sword. I cant say it looks alot like kenshins but the fact that it is a sakabatu is amazing and the blade its self impresses me just as much handle. The scabbard is just as supurb as the sword and makes for an over all nice package well worth the money. For a sword being bought over the internet for this price it is a great find and worth the money. If you like ruroni kenshin i suggest buying this and if you just like katanas in general and would like a nice cheap well crafted one for display or for just the hell of swingin it around this is a great one to get =)

This sword measures 41 inches in overall length, with a 27 inch blade made of 440 Stainless Steel, and an 11 1/2 inch black nylon cord wrapped handle. Includes free display stand! The tsuba (guard) is a simple black cast metal ring design. The saya (scabbard) is finished with a deep black lacquer and made of wood. The sageo (wrap around scabbard) is a solid black nylon cord. This is a reverse blade sword, meaning the edge of the blade is along what is traditionally the back side of the blade. The purpose of such a design is one in which one has sworn to no longer take a life but must still defend their own life.

40" Anime Kenshin Sakabato Burgundy Reverse Blade Samurai Sword Review

(More customer reviews)the sword is authentic to the rouroni kenshin/Samurai X series, the balde, as described is reversed, but the tip of the sword was not like most swords, which in the descriptions picture it is, it suddenly turns into a straight curve, rather than a gradual slope. the sword and sheath themself look amazing, but when i removed the sword from the sheath, it took extrenuos force, and i was afraid to break the sword or sheath. but, if left as is when recieved, it will look amazing in any persons collection if you want it for decoration its worth it, but if you want it to be functional, search for reverse blade swords and find the one that says it is made of carbon steel in the description,carbon steel is far more functional than stainless steel(which this one is made of),
a side note for those who are just starting a collection, 1060 carbon steel is the cheapest type of sword availible that is affordable(for most)
if you are willing to spend more, try out damascus,9260 spring, and T10 steels
most durable being damascus
Carbon Steel: the lower the # the more flexible the steel(bad below about 50) and high #s are more brittle(bad above 70), 1060 is a great compromise for both

Up for sale is a brand new traditional Japanese Sakabato Samurai Katana. It is the primary weapon used by the character "Himura Kenshin" in the anime series Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story. A sakabato (reverse-edged sword) is a fictional type of Japanese sword. On the normal katana, the outward curved side of the blade is sharpened, while the inward curved side of the blade is blunt. In contrast, the sakabato is made so that the cutting edge is on the side that curves inward. This sword features a reverse blade constructed by 440 stainless steel. The edge of the sword is slightly sharpened. The sword is measured at 40". The scabbard is lacquered in glossy burgundy paint. A golden Kanji of "Reverse" is stamped on the scabbard. The handle is measured at 10.5" long, and features antique silver finished guard and pommel. The sword stand in the picture does not come with this sword.

The most noticeable feature on this handmade katana is the high gloss white wooden saya (scabbard) accented with black sageo (cord). Inside the saya is a high polished carbon steel blade adorned by a thick hi (blood groove) and natural hamon line. The tsuba (guard) has been molded from a zinc mixture and pressed to display a Samurai wielding his katana. The tsuba has been painted with an antique coating that matches the fuchi (collar) and kashira (buttcap); the tsuka (handle) bears a gold plated dragon menuki (handle ornament) contrasting nicely with the antique hardware. Surrounding the tsuka is a black ito (braid) covering top quality same (ray skin), anchoring the full tang carbon steel blade are two menuki (wooden pegs) seen in the handle. Included with the katana is a sword bag, sword stand, and cloth covered display box. Measures 44 inches closed, 42 inches open with a 28 inch blade length and 18/64 blade thickness. The symbol of Fudo Myoo is engraved on one side of the hand forged carbon steel blade and on the other side is an engraved dragon horinmono. The blade has been forged using the Japanese Maru technique laminating different degrees of steel hardness; polished to a mirror finish and lined with a deep hi (blood groove). (More customer reviews)We bought this to go with our Asian themed living room and it not only was a GREAT deal but it's an excellent product that looks a lot more expensive. Because we bought this only as a decoration for the wall we were actually surprised that the blades do have some cutability to them and I am guessing if I had a sharpener that would fit the blades that these actually would become VERY sharp. The vendor told me you could not mount these to a wall, he was wrong, we were able to with a couple of light nails mount the holder and knives with no problem whatsoever although it's not stated in the description.

(More customer reviews)Although there are some obvious discrepencies if you painstakingly compare this sword to the fictional blade it's based upon, it's just about the best reverse-blade katana you could ask for. I'm in no position to comment on its claim that it's built for functional and practical use, but to these inexperienced hands, it feels very sturdy. Although I'm not exactly swimming in money, I'm glad I bought myself this little birthday present. You very well may be, too. I highly recommend this one to anyone looking for either a high-quality display sword or a very good replica of Kenshin Himura's Sakabato.
Keep in mind that this *is* made of high-carbon steel and will require maintenance in order to ward off rusting, however.
