I didn't have time to mention in the video but there is an image and word on the blade. You can't make out the word in the product pictures but it says "Dorado" and has a picture of a swordfish. I looked it up and I think it refers to the constellation. The actual Dorado fish is ironically flat nosed but the constellation is historically misrepresented as a swordfish.
Believe it or not, I thought this little facet only enhances the appeal of the knife by giving it some unique historical connection.

Classic Bandit Thief Cutlass Sword Saber Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this sword a number of years ago and have been pretty pleased. For a low cost replica I've always enjoyed this sword. Came with a very pointy tip and a bit of an edge, which I had dulled. The metal is too soft and the tang not sufficient for fight coreography. Though if you are cautious it can take some limited abuse:) But it makes an excellent pirate blade for reproduction work. My biggest problem has been the handle. The handle is wooden and quite slick, especially if your hands sweat. I highly recommend sanding or leather wraping the handle before doing anything with this blade.

Captain Jack Sparrow Caribbean Pirate Cutlass Sword Review

(More customer reviews)Sure it is called a replica, because who would admit making weapons for modern-day buccaneers? I received this neat cutlass as a gift. I found it to be very solidly constructed, and believe me if needed this item would take (and give) punishment. The 440 Stainless Steel blade on mine arrived semi-sharp, and for clarification these steels can definitely TAKE and HOLD an edge. In fact the 440 steels will hold an edge better than some current Spanish steels (read the Sword forums). The heavy handguard is well-detailed and made of nonmagnetic metal, perhaps brass but I cannot tell without risk of damaging the finish. It is certainly not pewter or aluminum. The pommel is probably hollow, but holds very tight to the handle.
About the only weak area is the scabbard...this is where the "replica" description becomes apparent. It is made of plastic (with metal embellishments), and will not hold up to much abuse. Also, you may need to purchase a "frog" if you wish to wear this with your "uniform" or from a belt.
So carry on my swashbuckling friends...hope this helps!

(More customer reviews)I ordered this sword to use with a pirate costume, and it certainly looks the part, but there were a few shortcomings.The scabbard is fairly well made, but the brass stud that holds a real cutlass in its frog (the thingie you hang the scabbard from your belt with) isn't attached to the scabbard, as it would be in the genuine article. Instead, it's a separate casting that does nothing useful whatsoever.The frog itself is made of a particularly stretchy variety of pleather. This means that the scabbard slips free of the frog after a few minutes of wear, dumping the scabbard on the ground. I fashioned a better frog using leather scraps left over from another project.The sword itself is quite convincing, has the proper heft, and screams "pirate!" without having to paste little skulls and crossbones all over it.If you want detailed historical accuracy, keep looking. If you want an inexpensive accessory for a nautical costume and are able to deal with its shortcomings, this cutlass and scabbard is a bargain.
