(More customer reviews)The title of this review says it all. If you expect a sword that you can do anything with other than look at, look elsewhere. But if you need a nice looking decorative or prop sword, this one fits the bill.
I got this item for a film project, as I needed a two-handed sword as a prop for a warrior. Most of the supposedly two handed swords on Amazon are not that large, but at over 43 inches this one was pretty big. The wooden handle also appealed to me because it wasn't plastic, and wouldn't break if the actor decided to get a little too wild with the props (it's been known to happen).
When the sword arrived, I was surprised by how light it was. Most decorative swords are just as heavy as they look, while real swords are rarely very heavy at all. This one is heavier than a real sword, probably about 7 lbs. or so, but that's not bad. It's also balanced almost perfectly, which I also found surprising. You can hold it comfortably in one hand, and the balance point is just above the hilt. The handle, though extremely bulky (not for people with small hands AT ALL), is indeed crafted from hardwood, Monkeypod from the look of it. It's very nice looking.
That's about where my surprise ended. It is as cheaply constructed as you might imagine. The blade rattles slightly, so I doubt it's full tang. It is not advertised to be, but don't expect it. The brass plating on the hilt is very thin, mine had a small ding out of it and it's barely more than leafing. The handle is also rather loosely fitting and rattles slightly. On the other hand, it can be swung without breaking so it will make a great prop item for me. Don't expect this to take impact from another weapon, though.
The blade is stainless steel, not sharpened (which I am glad for), and looks high quality enough.
Now, for the negative. The product description states "This sword includes a top quality leather sheath." That must be a joke. I can barely imagine a lower quality sheath. It is made almost entirely from cardboard (yes, thin cardboard) and foam rubber. There are two strips of horrible quality leather on the outside of the sheath, and that's the only leather on this thing. The strap is made from vinyl that barely even looks like leather, and is so thin that it stretches and feels like it will break if you put the sword in the sheath and hold it by the strap. And like I said, this is a not a heavy sword. Fortunately, I won't be using the sheath for anything but storage, because that's all it's good for.
So, in summation: Good prop sword, large and not heavy, decent construction. Horrible sheath. It is worth the marked down price I paid (about $30.00) and I would buy it again even having seen it. I guess that's a win.
