Gerber E-Z-Out Jr. Clip Point Knife Review

(More customer reviews)I've had this knife for 5 years. It was sent back to Gerber once because the rubber inserts in the Zytel handle loosened, after 3 years. They replaced the handle, sharpened the knife, and returned it promptly, for free. Keep in mind that the knife rode in my front pocket every day, and whenever I moved furniture or something heavy at work the knife caught the brunt of the contact on my hip. You can buy an alloy handled knife if triple redundant sturdiness is a huge concern, but Zytel is an incredibly tough plastic, and the significant weight reduction makes it preferable in daily carry (not trench warfare or whatever some knives are marketed for) situations. If a knife is annoyingly heavy, you won't carry it, and you won't have it when you need one. The thumb hole in the blade is better than a thumb stud because it doesn't dig into your hip. One handed opening is no problem, even with large hands. The full size half & half serrated is large enough to be noticed if it falls out of a pocket, which doesn't happen often if you keep the clip tight. It's very comfortable to carry and use at this size, and a lot safer than fumbling with a tiny pen knife. The blade holds an edge very well, and the lock has remained tight. The Jr. version is less secure in a jean pocket than the full size, because of the reduced length, but it might be preferable for people with small hands. Don't buy the Jr. solely for weight considerations, since the full is very light. It's an excellent compromise between a crappy unsafe $5 throwaway for work and a high dollar overbuilt Benchmade (or equivalent) that's way too easy to lose. Lifetime guarantee.

In the world of pocketknives G-10 has super-hero status as a handle material. Its a woven epoxy filled laminate thats grippy in the hand, is nearly indestructible, repels moisture and chemicals and wont retain heat or cold. The mid-sized Cara Cara folder is one of two of the byrd lines first laminate handle offering. Ridge Runner Elite Two Blade Folding Knife Review

(More customer reviews)The grip is non-slip, as in your hand really doesn't slip at all. The knife comes very very sharp and is a good length. The saw works well, but I found it only works if you cut across the grain of wood. So medium sized sticks, wood dowel rods or tree branches will cut fairly cleanly with it.
The only reason I entered 4 out of 5 is because there's no pocket clip. What I end up doing is placing the little hook at the end of the saw blade over the corner of my pocket and it stays in place. In the long run, it's probably a bad idea though and will end up ruining my pocket. The hook cut through 550 para cord very cleanly, it's surprisingly sharp. It just takes a bit of pressure to get the cuts started.

PRO's:
Good size. About 7in long open and about 4in closed.
Look GREAT! I love the urban type camouflage artwork on it.
I can easily open the blade one handed with just a slightly strong flick of my wrist and it locks into place.
The finger hole at the bottom is plenty big enough for anyone's fingers if you've got sausage hands or not. Also a nice place to hook a carabiner to.
440 Stainless Steel.
Has a good pocket clip.CON's:
The knife in the picture is not the exact knife you get. The knife you will receive is serrated for the last inch on the bottom of the blade.
The tip is DULL! I have not even used the knife yet and the tip is not even sharp enough to prick my finger on. I literally opened this knife half an hour ago.
The blade is not as sharp as it should be. I will be sharpening it asap. It does however cut a piece of paper fairly easily if you cut through it fast. Not sharp enough to cut it clean but it still cuts it. Also it will not even begin to cut a piece of paper if you just rest the blade on an edge and apply pressure. As most good sharp knifes will do cleanly and with ease.
The liner lock mechanism is a little weird.. Not sure how to explain it other than that I'm afraid to press to hard to unlock the blade for fear of breaking off that piece of metal. It seems slightly brittle but I could be wrong. Hasn't broken off yet. lol....
It is almost an EXACT copy of the (Much better) Smith & Wesson Karambit/Cuttin' Horse knife. I would suggest if you want this knife. Spend about $15 more for the Karambit!!! Its worth it! If I had not only spent about $13 or so on this knife I would be very disatisfied. Overall: I think this is a pretty good knife considering it's price is so low. Shipped FAST! I ordered an item on Amazon the day before this and this came a day before that came! Ordered this item on a Friday (the 21st) and got it the next Monday(the 25th)!? I was very surprised because the est. delivery date was the 27th-1st of the next month.
