(More customer reviews)I'll admit I bought this machete over others available because of the looks. With a black finish and the saw on the backside it just looks badass. Once I got it in the mail, looking at the package, I knew I made the right choice.
First up, the packaging is a huge pain. Be ready to spend some time ripping this out of the plastic. There is a metal rivet thing going through the hole near the tip holding it to the packaging. A warning sticker is right on the blade which required using some Goof Off FG650 The Miracle Remover, 4.5-Ounce to remove the residue.
I looked over the blade and was rather shocked... this thing was duller than a butter knife. I might as well be cutting vegetation with a cricket bat. I could draw this blade against my skin fast and hard feeling like I just used a back scratcher to relieve an itch. I don't know if they forgot to sharpen this at the factory or what. I wouldn't be able to use this machete for anything.
I spent the next several hours creating an edge on the blade. I used a combination of sharpeners and stones. I recommend the ACCUSHARP KNIFE SHARPENER OD ACC008. When I was done, I looked down at all the metal shavings and thought I was in a metal workers shop. Once I had a sharp edge, the machete transformed into a tool I would be able to use.
The saw on the backside seems like it will work perfectly fine. I haven't tried it out yet. The machete feels solid in you hand, has a good grip and a good weight. I could see myself swinging this all day with no problems.
I will be using this for camping, hiking, and the occasional zombie horde.
