I bought several of these swords as groomsmen gifts and as a decorative sword they work just fine. However, they do take damage very easily so it is essential that if you buy this sword you plan only to hang it on a wall and look at it. The sheath cracked from repeated drawings of the sword (17 drawings) and the handle is not strong enough to support the weight of the blade. The blade of the sword appears to be a stamped piece of stainless steal with a very minor amount of edge sharpening. As said though, if used only decoratively this blade would like charming on as a wall piece, but I do not recommend this blade if you plan to have any other sort of use, it is not strong enough or well made enough even to be swung around for any extended period of time.

A sword of elegance and simplicity!Shirasaya (Japanese for "white scabbard") describes a katana without a guard or traditional handle wrappings. This design was used when the sword would not be wielded for some time and allowed for storage without fear of corrosive damage to the blade from the usual lacquered scabbard. Our shirasaya katana provides a sword that is minimalist in theme but still a striking example of Japanese sword craft.Measuring 36 1/2" overall, this katana offers an unfinished handle and scabbard, and a 25 1/2" heat tempered blade.A true collectible for the katana enthusiast!
