Wooden Medieval Knight Sword 38 inch Review

Wooden Medieval Knight Sword 38 inch

This sword was well designed, but poorly crafted; although it arrived earlier than scheduled, the cross guard was loose, there was a bur in the pommel, and the tip of the blade was partly warped. Fortunately, it was very easy to fix; all I needed was some duct tape to secure the cross guard. From there, it was very handy to wield. Overall, this sword is one of those great ideas gone bad, but these problems are easy enough to remedy once you get the sword.

CAS Hanwei Practical Rapier 43-Inch Blade Review

CAS Hanwei Practical Rapier 43-Inch Blade

Since it arrived, I've used the Practical Rapier for historical recreation fencing, and been very pleased with it. The fit and finish is great for the price, and makes it unjust to label this an "Entry Level" product.

The Schlaeger Rapiers utilize a popular swept hilt. These tapered blades provide a superior balance compared to the traditional parallel-sided schlaegers, making for a faster sword. Our Renaissance-style Rapiers trace their origins to early 17th century Europe, where swordplay with the Rapier was considered an essential part of a gentleman's education and was often used in resolving gentlemanly disagreements. Blades generally originated in one of the blade making centers such as Toledo or Solingen, but many differences in styling and hilt materials resulted from the local manufacture of hilts all over Europe.

CAS Hanwei Practical Hand and a Half Sword Review

CAS Hanwei Practical Hand and a Half Sword
Average Reviews:

After using this sword for a little while I can tell you, it will stand up to abuse. With 4 live steel fights under it's belt it has suffered little more than a barely noticeable ding. The temper is phenomenal, it can bend nearly 90 degrees and return to it's original form. It also looks great hanging from a baldric. However, the little leather rings it comes with to hang from your belt are almost useless. I used them once, and they were uncomfortable to say the least.
There are better swords out there if you want to go full on steel on steel full strength swings. But for regular stage combat this sword is excellent. For the price it really can't be beaten.

Our Practical broadswords are all based on authentically styled swords in our collection but they are tailored to meet the needs of re-enactment and stage combat. These very popular and affordable weapons feature authentic hilt styling, with fully tempered un-edged and un-pointed blades. They are designed to withstand rugged use while providing the level of safety required by many of today's re-enactment societies. The blades are crafted from 1065 high-carbon steel, hardened to 50HRC, which restricts edge-notching to acceptable levels while providing resilience and protection against brittleness. While the blades are substantial, they are fullered to provide balance and good handling characteristics. They feature 1/16" wide edges and rounded tips for safety. The tangs are also substantial, with radiused corners at the blade shoulders and no welds. The end of the tang is riveted over the pommel, which both eliminates any possibility of inadvertent disassembly. The hardwood grips are leather-covered. The scabbards are fabricated in glass-filled resin, to eliminate swelling and to minimize blade corrosion problems, with belt rings that adjust to allow vertical or horizontal carry. The wood-grain finish is attractive, but most re-enactors will decorate the scabbard to match their persona. The Practical Hand-and-a Half sword is based on the Albrecht sword, a classic design from the early part of the 15th century, with a simple cruciform hilt, flattened diamond-section blade and typical hand-and-a-half grip. With a weight of just 3 ¼ lbs. it handles very well without tiring the player during a long day in the field.

really a beautiful piece of work ! just the right amount of flex to the blade ,and the balance is amazing ! the only flaw I found is the material the grip is made of . under the wire wrap is plastic .when making a product of this quality why use plastic when the original material is cheap and easy to work ? overall a fine piece ,I reccomend it to anyone interested in the weaponry of our ancestors !

The Side Sword was a military sword of the 16th and 17th century Renaissance period that also achieved popularity among civilians, due to its relatively light weight and quickness. It also had an advantage over its contemporary, the rapier, in having the ability to cut efficiently as well as thrust. Side swords were often the weapon of choice for sword and buckler fighting. Our side sword, based on a German original, is a beautifully proportioned piece that balances very well. The 'swept" hilt affords excellent hand protection and the blade geometry makes for outstanding performance in both the cut and the thrust.

Cold Steel Hand & A Half Training Sword with Polypropylene Handle with Blunt Review

Cold Steel Hand and A Half Training Sword with Polypropylene Handle with Blunt

I haven't even used mine yet for sparring or real contact practice, just for forms. As a very new beginner at HEMA, I was looking for a very affordable waster to get started and this fit the bill. I ordered from eBay to save a few dollars and was moderately upset to find my waster somewhat warped. From a forum poster I learned that this was common with these, as they ship in a long narrow box that can get bent easily, but they will straighten out with use, or if need be, application of a heat gun. Still, the warping was minor so the waster is usable.
My instructor pointed out that the tip is a bit too sharp for thrusting practice, and the pommel's facets are very uncomfortable when using two handed. I took 10 minutes with my dremel's sanding and polishing heads and now both problems are solved.
I'll update after using it more, but for now, I think it's a serviceable practice sword, and certainly worth it for the incredible price. Other nylon or polypropylene wastes go for a minimum of $120, so this is hard to beat. I imagine I'll upgrade after I have some more experience in the art.

Authentic Kashi wood Bokkens are still used today, but are becoming quite costly. They also have the disadvantages, being made of wood, that they may rot, crack split or splinter. Cold Steel's solution to these dilemmas was to design a synthetic substitute, low in price and impervious to the elements. Our Bokken and our new Wakazashi Bokken are made of the heaviest grade polypropylene available and closely duplicate a real Katana and Wakazashi in length, size, weight and feel. While they're not quite as rigid as wood, they have the advantages of being virtually unbreakable and remarkably stiff and cut resistant.
