(More customer reviews)I am not sure the desription fits as the "Schofield revolver" had the spring loaded barrel clasp on the frame, whereas the standard Smith & Wesson Model 3 (which this basically is) has the latch mounted on the barrel. Since one of Major Schofield's revisions to the previous S&W Model 3 Revolvers involved this engineering change, I was disappointed this wasn't a Schofield replica, but it is a very fine S&W Model 3 Replica. With Schofield's model one would theorectically be able to open it one handed on horseback and reload. Not sure the caliber for replica. If a Schofield would be .45 Schofield (.45 S&W.), but the orginals and other variations came in other calibers. The gun is not stamped with it. The only skimp is really the auto ejector(extrator)/ejector spring and fact not a Schofield. Extrator is not even there but simulated on the revolver cylinder. Overall it is a heavy, very nice looking, hefty firearm replica of No 3 S&W revolver. Stainless steel and wood.

A non-firing copy of the Smith and Wesson original, well known to all western history aficionados. A favorite of the U.S. Cavalry, Wells Fargo agents, and Frank James. Features 8" barrel, real wood grips & top latch for quick reloading. This piece replicates the original in size, weight and appearance, and the parts function much like the original, even replicating the pivot action for reloading. However, parts cannot be interchanged or the replica made to fire ammunition. M1869 .45 Cal. Schofield Single Action - Nickel Finish
