(More customer reviews)I found this item when I was shopping for Chinese broadswords for training. I was initially weary of the price as, in my experience, such a low price usually meant a pot-metal sword. I can say that, taking a chance on these, I was pleasantly surprised.
This sword is a nice heavy metal (I want a sword not only to practice forms, but also for conditioning) and does have a sharpened edge - this is not a Wushu sword or a prop for kids to play with.
The handle is cord wrapped over (I want to say) wood or plastic (I do not have the sword in front of me now...)and is quite sturdy.
The hilt/blood cup and pommel is blackened brass and looks like the blackening will wear off quite easily with use (not a great concern to me), though the metal could be thicker here.
The scabbard is quite sturdy, though I would caution it's for decoration and storage, not strong enough to use in sparring.
Over all I am extremely pleased with this purchase - it is a great sword for the price (price being key here).
I will make a note that the swords I purchased were bought through Amazon from martialartsland.com - total price for two swords was $71. If you see the same sword listed for more- look around a bit (I see the identical sword here on Amazon for over $50...)
