(More customer reviews)The katana I received was great. The main selling point (in my opinion) is the blade. The fittings are rather cheap but do not look horrible. The tsuka was somewhat thicker than any sword I have owned. This confused me considering that this is supposed to be made to be really light. Over all this does turn out to be a very light katana. The saya is just your plain, run of the mill, black saya. The ito is a synthetic sued which makes my hands feel weird after using it for a while. The sword is well balanced and has a very sharp edge. The hamon on it is obviously acid enhanced, though real. A good number of people don't like this, and I normally don't, but something about this sword makes it fell okay to me. The blade has a nice polish to it. The shinogiji has a mirror polish while the rest of the blade has more of a dull polish. It makes for good lighting and makes the shinogi look very prominent. Over all, the main reason this doesn't get a 5/5 is the fittings. But for a sword this price, it is simply a great deal.

The Practical Special is a subtly modified version of the Practical Katana, made in response to requests for a quicker sword at the same economy price. The blade dimensions have been changed only slightly and the tsuba cutouts have been enlarged, and though this has resulted in a weight loss of only 3 oz., the difference in handling is very noticeable. The Practical will remain the standard for hard, regular cutting but for those needing a faster draw, multiple cut katana at an economy price, the Special is the answer.
