Kriegar Sharp Stainless Steel Straight Razors Review

(More customer reviews)I notice this product is getting dinged, which is actually a good thing, but it's getting dinged for all the wrong reasons.
Those who are complaining that this blade isn't sharp and needs to be honed either don't know or aren't telling you that even a $900+ custom made razor with a damascus steel blade and human legbone scales (handle) isn't going to be "shave ready" when it arrives in your mailbox. You either need to hone it yourself or send it to a professional to have it honed. You also need to strop it before every use. So those who are dinging this product for not being sharp are just ignorant of how products in this market are sold and what the buyer is expected to do with them before using them. This is like complaining a brand new car wouldn't start when you got it home because you didn't put gas in it on the way home from the dealership. That should not reflect on the car!
The reason this product *should* be dinged, IMO, is because it is a cheap asian knock-off import. It's a poor product made from poor components and I'd hate for any straight razor newbies to have their first experience with this and then never try wet shaving again. You can even shave the back of the neck like a straight razor but it is not a replacement for one. Straight razors are always the best. But this is convenient and cool. It has little disposable razors that fit into the handle. You can shave the hard to get spots like behind the ears or wherever. But it is all in all a good product. Comes in different styles and colors too.

What people who buy these things don't realize is that while DOVO makes an excellent razor, it only comes so sharp from the factory. It must be sent out to a professional who knows how to sharpen a straight razor. Once sharpened, it may not have to be sharpened again for another 6 months, but it will have to be stropped before each shave.
Also, there is a learning curve to shaving with a straight razor, so even when sharpened, don't expect great shaves till you get the hang of it. You will have to learn to strop and even learn to shave all over again.
The price is certainly right on this razor, but it will take about $20 more to get it "shave ready." Shave ready razors usually come from dealers who sharpen and test their products before shipping.
