(More customer reviews)The Hanwei "Tac Wak" is a great item for a collection or possible use. (Note: it's not a "ninja" sword, as above. Ninja blades are completely straight; this sword has the curved, sweeping blade of the traditional "short katana," the wakazashi.) I was drawn to it by the unique combination of the Japanese-style blade and length with more modern, practical aspects - the rubberized grip, paracord wrappings, and fiberglass/composite scabbard. The sword did not disappoint. It is just the right length and balance for one-handed cuts, yet usable with two hands. The bo-hi makes the blade "sing" or whistle when striking. I actually like this because it provides audible feedback on a properly-aligned cut. Twisting the blade out of alignment makes no sound or a different sound. This enables practice cuts without actually striking something. The blade was sharp enough from the box for use. It could be sharper. I touched it up a little with ceramic, but I don't know a lot about sharpening and didn't want to risk hurting the edge. Someone who knows swords could really put a razor edge on it. But mine slices several sheets of paper very easily, and I know from past cutting with other blades that it will do fine for my backyard purposes. If it was used as a weapon, it would definitely be lethal. The grip is not quite as rounded and comfortable as traditional katanas, but I found it OK, and the rubber really helps retention. The scabbard seems sturdy. The only thing that would have made the set better would be an actual "tactical" way to attach the scabbard to belts, MOLLE gear, etc., but that would have also taken away from the traditional-look paracord simplicity. Overall, I really like this Hanwei product. Definitely got what I paid for. (Actually, I got it cheaper than advertised here. There are many options out there.)
