(More customer reviews)Masahiro usually ships in a tube with japanese scenes all over it. This sword came in a box with "The Matrix" art on the box, pictures of "Morpheus" on a hang tag, and no Masahiro logo to be found on any packing, jut the company logo, "Ancient Warrior". I just looked it up in google, and this is the Morpheus sword from the Matrix with no manufacturers name. Perhaps these swords have not been selling well since the matrix series ended, so Amazon decided to change the item name and brand it Masahiro.
On the plus side, it is a very nice, solid sword. Very well built, so-so finish on blade (can see scratches not quite polished out), false hamon, good kissaki, two peg tsuka, real brass menuki, and real same. The blade is thick and beefy, and no groove to lighten blade weight. I bought it because it was plain and not ornamented. Very understated esthetic. It says made in china on the box, but there is no made in china stamp on the blade, or anywhere else. I am thankful for that.
The only gripe I have with it is that the tsuba edges (inner spokes of the wheel)are abrupt and a bit sharp against your hand when you use it for Iai-do or practice cutting. I will take a small file and smooth them very slightly on the hand side for more comfort.
Also there is an abundance of waxy gunk in the saya (which is usual), but if these swords were made during the matrix series, they have been sitting in storage for awhile...but not a speck of rust anywhere on the blade! So although unsightly, it did it's job.
PS: if you look these swords up under "Morpheus", they are a lot more expensive elsewhere! This is a good bargain for a fully functional katana!
