(More customer reviews)I really do not like giving anything 1 star, because it reflects on me a bad purchase, and I obviously feel like I wasted my money. But when I give something 1 star, it's because I am 100% absolutely unhappy with EVERYTHING about the item, it does not have one redeeming factor. And such is the case here, with this supposed sword of Sasuke's from the Naruto Shippuuden manga/anime series.
They say "you get what you pay for" and I've bought enough swords to know that anything in the $20 range is going to be junky straight away, so I was getting this purely for a display thing because I like the anime; but this sword I (literally) felt like throwing in the trash 3 minutes out of the box. I'd try to sell it off but I'd actually feel guilty asking some poor sap money for this thing, even 10 bucks. I'd give it to some kid, but they'd cut themselves. First of all, the scabbard and handle are just plain old crappy wood, painted white, with no embellishments or finishing. It looks like someone went to Ace Hardware, grabbed a couple of those warped baseboard planks out of the remnants bin, glued them together & painted it white. Just glue. Which you can see has squished out in some spots. I pulled the blade out of the scabbard and it was SO loosely fitted into the handle (not enough glue, I presume...) that the blade began to pull out of THAT instead of the scabbard! When I managed to yank it free, the blade had a ridiculously obvious curve to the one side, that I had to try to counter-bend just to get it halfway straight. In the process, again, the blade nearly came out of the handle. I don't know how much "tang" the blade has going down into the handle, but it can't be much, and it's apparently not held in place by ANYTHING. Other than, as I say, a blob of glue, that is not doing its job by any means. Now, the blade lurches lazily around in the handle and I can barely tell if it's bent or just hanging out of it at a ridiculous angle.
Swing the sword around? Use it to cut something light? Not on your life. If I swung this, even lightly, the blade would likely fly out of the handle like a kunai. The blade itself is pretty sharp; I expected it to be a false edge, but what difference does it make how sharp it is when it has absolutely NO practical use whatsoever? It might as well have been a false edge, since it's for visuals ALONE. The blade is awfully skinny for a samurai style blade. It's painted black and half the blade is brushed silver. It bends like a piece of lead, seriously. I have cheaper swords that wouldn't bend into a 45 degree angle and stay there with your hands alone. If it wasn't so sharp, I'd call it a toy. But I don't want to risk suggesting this should be played with by children, so let's just say it's a piece of crap, instead.
The paint job looks NOTHING like it does in the anime. I guess I should have realized that beforehand...the one in the anime is not white with a black stripe. It's dark gray with a black stripe, and the blade is all silver with a black stripe going down the center. Check it out: [...] This looks nothing like that. So it's not even an accurate display piece. It's not usable, it's not visually accurate, to me, it's good for nothing. Save yourself some heartache and 20 bucks, and hold out for a REAL samurai sword when you can afford one. This thing isn't even good for beginner collectors or Naruto fans!
