After getting the Hanwei Practical Katana and the Cold Steel Imperial katana, I was smitten with the Paul Chen company.
The Hanwei Practical Katana was much better made than the heavy and awkward Cold Steel. The Paul Chen company cares about the ideal of the Japanese mythical katana. The pay much attention to balance, craftsmanship and beauty. I started to eye this top of the line Hanwei product, and was smitten. To me the sword was just so beautiful, and Paul Chen is a really good company, for they care about their swords. Upon opening the box I was really surprised with the beauty of this sword, she just sings. Very well balanced, and all and all Im very happy with it. What one must consider is that with spending a grand on a production katana, you are reaching the limit of its worth. If you are careful and do your research, for the same price you may be able to find a real one brought over here at the end of WW2. A grand is a lot of money for any sword. But in my eyes this is one sexy sword, that is made well and if you like this sport you will be very happy with it. The hamon is real, the carving of the (Kami) or god is excellent, and the sword comes with a sword bag and a care kit. If you are looking at this sword, I say get it for its worth every penny, I love looking at it, I love swinging it and holding it in my hands.

The Kami Katana has a hand-forged and folded K120C powder steel blade with a long (o)kissaki featuring a hand engraved 'Fudo" Horomono and Bo-Hi. The folding process creates exceptional hada, or grain pattern, along the blade and is accentuated by the distinctive hamon. The Saya is deeply lacquered in red, with a black ring-carved section at the mouth. The ray skin used on the tsuka is of the highest quality, and the tsuka-ito and sageo are woven from best quality Japanese silk. The Fuchi, Kashira, Kojiri, Koiguchi and Kurigata are all made from blackened bronze, with decoration in relief and selective detailing of copper, silver and gold. The Tsuba, which depicts the Kami, or Guardian Warriors, is crafted in hardened blackened copper with decoration in relief and selective silver and gold detailing. The Habaki is of two-piece construction, the inner section being copper and the outer section gold-plated brass.
