(More customer reviews)From the title you might assume I am not very knowledgable of japanese swords, i would like to think of myself as an avid sword collecter and martial arts practitioner. First I paid $90 dollars for this piece, it is nothing spectacular to look at, it has a very traditional tsuba the sunburst or "wagon wheel" its nothing special but it is very typical of japanese swords. All the furniture of the sword, the habaki , the fuchi and kuchire, the seppa, and menuki are all hand made and of superior quality. The tsuka ito (the wrap around the handle) Is cheap poly cotton blend but is wraped correctly and tightly. It is full tang with 2 mekugi holding the blade in place. I am not entirely sure wether the hamon is real, if not it is an amazing job of etching. The edge of the blade is very sharp and sutable for light tameshigiri. I believe the blade is 1040 high carbon, so it is not wise or safe to approach heavy targets like large goza or bamboo. Lastly the saya, the laquer job is excellent but the koi guchi does not fit the blade perfectly so there is no seal. This blade was labeled wakizashi which is definetly accurate, might also be refered to as a shoto because it is perfect addition to your daisho. The sword however is a perfect representation of a ninja-to, which are not strait swords as portrayed in movies but short curved blades excelent for close quarters battojutsu. However you use this blade the second you take it in hand you will fall in love with it, I highly recomend it to anyone.
