(More customer reviews)If you want a sword that's authentic, ruggedly built, with a good heft, a nice forward balance for hacking, or back yard cutting, that looks good on display, and costs a lot less than it's worth, you are looking at it. I bought mine with a tassel (red) for display purposes and it looks royal. Hanwei makes a Broadsword hanger that fits it for about 7.00, but it comes with 2 little hooks if you are not picky.
It wasn't mentioned in the advertising but it also comes with a poster size canvas print depicting the battle at the Great wall, for which it's famous. I don't know the details but it won against Katanas...nuff said. The print is meant to be stretched and quite colorful, not for me, but it rolls up into a gold colored tube to be stored.
You don't have to be careful with this sword. Use it to clear brush in the yard (fun), and it sharpens easily with a kitchen knife diamond tool that is so common in kitchens of today. Or polish it carefully, oil the leather scabbard and display it proudly. Mine has the long red tassel hung out to the side and a Chinese (red star) Army cap completes the display.
It comes very sharp, you can get it even sharper with a very fine stone, but you won't need to. A diamond sharpener costs about 5.00 on Amazon. This is not a toy. This sword was built to let blood!....or chop mats if you prefer tamashigiri to killing Samurai. But if any unfriendly Samurai show up, you are so ready.
There's another sword built on the same frame, with brass and fancy wrapping on the ring, and a nylon case.. okay, but the true blades were wrapped in anything handy and tied with a scarf for romance and to strike fear in the enemy. If you knew what was tied to all those red scarves coming at you you would seriously consider retreat, and a change of briefs. Definately a weapon to stay on the right end of. Go ahead shop. I don't see the point though, this is the real deal... emc Raleigh

This Cas Hanwei sword replicates a Dadao used by the Chinese military during the Japanese invasion of China in the pre-WWII era and celebrates a Chinese victory at the battle of the Great Wall, in which the Dadao and the Katana were actually pitted against each other. The sword features a 22 7/8" razor sharp carbon steel blade. The leather handle wrap is representative of the many different wrapping materials originally used by the poorly equipped army. Many of the handles were simply wrapped with strips of clothing fabric, knotted in place.A leather scabbard is included for safety, though the originals hand none. The sword is ruggedly built to handle heavy-duty cutting.37" overall.
