(More customer reviews)This is full weight blunt made of 1045 through hardened high carbon steel (2 lb 3 oz) suitable for kata. Be warned: it is on the heavy side for a new practioner. Zinc-alloy and some of the lighter profile stainless blunts (iaito) weigh less than 2 lbs (800g) and may be preferable for newbies.
If one owns other katana by this maker (Cheness Inc), then this may be a justification for owning this practice blunt--weight, tsuka shape, handling, etc. are identical with other Cheness fully functional katana. However, if one wants a lighter iaito, Cheness does offer a light weight stainless model (1 lb 14 oz). CAS/Hanwei also offers some comparably weighted iaito with stainless blades.
This katana can be had from Cheness, Inc. directly for far less than the price listed here. Also, one can choose from three different blade lengths -- 27", 28" and 29". Just so you know.

The Deluxe Carbon Steel Iaito is constructed of through hardened 1045 carbon steel as with the Type 8. The Deluxe version also uses a new tsuka core with harder wood and channels carved in for the same skin to be seated in, thereby resulting in a more oval feeling grip.
