The knife comes sharp. Capable of cutting hair. Handle is comfortable in my hands, and the weight is not that bad. The knife is however quite long. So it may not be a good knife for a self defense role, but that all depends on the wielder I suppose, but because of the knife is long it may make a great survival knife. The knife comes with a small, course, diamond sharpening stone. I have yet to try it out, but because of the big blade, and the size of the sharpening stone, you will more then likely have to sharpen the knife in sections.
Interesting thing about this knife is that it reminds me of a tactical kitchen knife, lol.
