(More customer reviews)This is a must for crazy campers like me. We used it to zip-line. I am not responsible for anyone who hurts and/or kills themselves from me saying that. It's fun, but should be left to people who know what they're doing (and have health insurance).
I've also used it to scale steep hillsides with trees. It's so fun and since it comes with rope, it's a complete package of fun.

Has (4) black steel hooks, 1/2" dia x 8" across, point-to-point, on a 9-1/2" long shaft, and 33-feet of 1/4" dia black nylon cord, which is heavier than it sounds. (More customer reviews)These devices, while well priced and made of good material, need some modification and don't work right out of the box.
The shoelaces seem to work well enough for keeping the spikes on your feet, but I've found that the biggest problem is that while climbing the spikes would roll underneath my feet and I'd slip.
I had to make some pretty heavy modifications to these things to make them work for me. One being a superior set of nylon straps to replace the shoelaces. And the second being welding a piece of metal to the part of the spikes that touches the bottom of the foot.
I say two stars because they worked, but only with heavy modification. If for some reason I needed to buy a second pair, I would buy a pair like these. But be warned that you need to do a little work before these things can actually be useful.

(More customer reviews)As an entry-level ninja in today's weakened economy, I must watch my budget on equipment and supplies. I haven't yet qualified for health benefits, and the union for ninjas isn't the most effective, so I have little to back me up in case of a catastrophic injury. Although most assume I have the REAL ultimate power from the outset, being an entry-level ninja is a long climb to the top. So, for the ninja on the go, this is the ideal item for the price-conscious ninja needing an effective grappling hook at a price-point that won't offend your sensei or your sensibility. Just last week, I was infiltrating the offices of a large, multi-national bank on a small assassination mission, and - wouldn't you know it? -my old hook just snapped in two as I hoisted myself up to the 17th floor. I nearly fell a rather devastating distance to the ground. I am so glad I had this hook at the ready as a backup! I was able to hoist myself back to safety after a quick throw (most of my free time is, in fact, spend flying with the aid of this hook). I will, of course, buy another, now that my backup hook is now my primary hook, although I think that next time I scale an office building, I'll take the elevator instead. Or I'll just totally flip out, and that would be sweet.

Luckily, it did not break completely mid-climb, but had cracked most of the way through under about 180 pounds of weight--enough that afterward it fell apart very easily. Although above it says "rated for 800 pounds," another seller says "not for climbing."
If you really want to be an urban ninja, get a real grappling hook from a mountain climbing supply store.
