Do I know that decent survival knife not very often comes with the price $[...]? Yes I do. But HK-6001 matched several attractive parameters: right size; double serrated (better than many) saw; very good sheath design with multiple attachment options; fully water insensitive handle and sheath. Plastic on handle was too hard on touch (fragile?) but with $[...] as not a big risk I purchased one despite my intuitive skepticism regarding its way too fancy name. At home I opened the handle unscrewing pommel to find that it is not a full-tang, but instead inch deep in the handle back of the blade is welded to the metal extension with the thread hosting butt tightening handle together. Welding point immediately brought some concerns, so I put the knife to an innocent test -- throwing it in a dead tree. It survived 4 attempts, and after that was broken after hitting the snag by the butt. Welding did not survive, handle turned 10 degrees left, plastic cracked because of deformation with several pieces falling apart behind the bolster. Conclusion: if I used it only by hand it is possible this knife could serve me for years, but it is not a reliable survival tool. I write it on the hope that MTech reconsiders design: with real full-tang and better nonbreakable plastic handle I would be glad to buy one for twice higher price.
