(More customer reviews)I am a life-long knife collector with many production blades and a few custom ones. This is only my second purchase of a traditional Japanese style blade, the first being an inexpensive sword bought at a local blade show.
The Hand Forged 1024 layer Black Tanto is everything that is promised. I think it is a good bargain for the price. The blade is nicely finished, with the layers visible, the lines straight and no apparent machine marks. The edge is reasonably sharp and handle is expertly wrapped. The wooden sheath is flawless and the blade/sheath fit is excellent.
A pleasant surprise were the silk-like carry bag and a black lacquered display stand. I'll definitely use the stand to display my new toy on my bookcase that holds all my samurai literature and art.
I bought this blade as a venture into traditional style tanto. I will use it as a practice blade for my kempo kata, display and just playing around. I might even cut something with it.
Keep in mind this is not a high end antiquity and you will be pleased with your purchase. I will consider purchasing a higher end tanto from this company in the near future.
