(More customer reviews)I have owned this sword for about six years and have never been dissapointed. It is a quality show piece that is built to high tolerances. The blade is forged to a very hard edge, that is sharpened to a long life battle edge. Meaning it is not razor sharp like a "Ryumon" sword, but sharp enough to cut properly when force is applied. It is the right edge to have for a collectors piece that will be on display, and can still cut things for show or training when needed. The nice thing is that this type of edge does not wear out at all if not abused. The balance is outstanding and is one of the best things you notice when you hold it. It is very solid and the unity of blade to grip feels almost as if it comes to life in your hands and wants to move on it's own. I have cut things with it (I mean, come on, you can't have an awesome sword and not try it out right?)and was surprised at first how easy it was to control the first time I cut an apple in mid air. After many melons, apples and yes I diligently cleaned it after each use. It has shown no sign of edge wear, or tarnishing. I have not overused it and it is still a display piece. The only thing I don't like is the saya (sheath) has a glossy laquered finish that does show some hairline scratches because of its softness. The grip threads are pure cotton, and also have some minor frays developed over time. That is a characteristic of the authentic look this sword presents. If you like them enough to pay for the quality, you will enjoy this katana greatly.
