(More customer reviews)I'm very happy to own this sword!
I own a few of the NERF N-Force swords, so this was a very nice addition to my collection of foam weaponry.
First off, I have never really LARP'd before (more than dressing up for a faire), however I also didn't really buy it for the purpose of duels. I have a somewhat local renaissance festival that discourages weapons (however they're the kind that probably wouldn't even let the NERF swords through either), so this probably wouldn't make it through the gate even though it's foam. I also go to conventions and can see not wanting to freely walk down the streets with this... the best way for me to describe it is that you get the feeling that you know it's fake and that it's a sword at the same time, so to strangers it's probably also both a mix of harmless and dangerous at the same time at first glance... but it'd also be very impressive once they know what it is, I'd think.
In terms of durability, it's sturdy, I certainly don't feel like it would just fall apart on me. But I personally wouldn't deal a heavy blow a wall or something and expect the sword wouldn't take some damage for it. I've never done dueling, so I don't know how intense that can be and how well this would hold up. I haven't tried twisting or bending it to test since I have no need to do that - I'm not going to say you can or can't, I'm simply just not interested in even the possibility of breaking something I just took out of the box less than an hour ago so I could write a more accurate review, sorry all!
The sword looks very good and I'm very impressed. The detail is amazing, it looks exactly like the picture - with one exception. The picture shows the hilt being gray and the blade being white - I ordered another for a friend, and for both of them the blade is the same gray as the hilt. It obviously doesn't shine like a real sword, but it's what you'd expect for a good metallic paint job. The grip is nice, it's fairly light, there is a manufacturer, copyright, 'made in...' marking on the blade just where it meets the hilt (with a Kit Rae stamped in fancy font on the other side), but it's very small and not something I would ever worry about anyone noticing (just say it's ancient writing if anyone asks, I guess). In terms of thickness, the hilt is around 3cm thick and the blade is 2cm thick. It definitely wouldn't cut someone and is very harmless overall.
I'm a big fan of Final Fantasy and Lord of the Rings, fantasy in general, so I just liked having a sword around that didn't look like a toy, that I could swing around and have fun with - rather than having a real sword that I'd be too scared I might destroy something or maim someone. So for me, with the price, this is perfect to have around, and hopefully I'll be able to bring it peace-tied inside a faire or two.
